Chattanooga Tied for 13th after First Round of Landfall Tradition
10/22/2010 6:18:00 PM | Women's Golf
WILMINGTON, N.C. --- Senior Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) is tied for eighth shooting an even-par 72 in the first round of the prestigious Landfall Tradition on Friday. Chattanooga is tied for 13th as a team with Northwestern and Florida State as the trio shot 309 for the day.
That places the threesome two shots behind Ohio State and host UNC Wilmington in 11th at 307. The Mocs, Wildcats and Seminoles are three shots clear of No. 23 Oklahoma State.
No. 6 Duke and Texas are tied atop the leaderboard at three-over par 291. No. 13 North Carolina is third at 293, while No. 5 UCLA is fourth at 294 (+6).
Wolf's 72 was a steady round of three birdies and 12 birdies against three bogeys. She is just two back of co-leaders Kim Donovan (Duke), Caroline Ellington (N.C. State) and Katherine Perry (UNC) at two-under par 70. A quartet of ladies is tied for fourth after one under rounds of 71.
Junior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) was next on the Mocs' team leaderboard at plus four, 76. She is tied for 36th, two shots ahead of freshman Jordan Britt (Dayton, Tenn.) who is tied for 52nd with a 78.
Freshman Yushira Budhram (Johannesburg, South Africa) rounded out the team scoring with an 83. Senior Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, Australia) had the drop score of 84. It is just her second drop score in her three-plus years at UTC (104 counters in 106 career rounds).
The playing partners will look somewhat familiar for the Mocs as they are grouped again with Northwestern in round two with Florida State added to the mix. UTC will be led off No. 10 by de Groot at 9:20 a.m., with Budhram (9:30), Britt (9:40), Loza (9:50) and Wolf (10:00) in tow.
