Postmatch Quotes

Head Coach Lisa Rhodes
Opening statement:
"I think both of our outsides were very impressive on the front line. Meagan was unstoppable and probably had the match of her career and Heather was very impressive on the outside as well. We had a shot being up 14-12. We missed a serve at a crucial moment in the match, but still had an opportunity, then we made an overpass [off the serve] and it was back even again. We just could not finish it."
On seeing the outsides play well:
"It was great. This is what we have been wanting for awhile. I think that the middles played alright and that opened up a lot of things because we started setting them early. Then, they had to respect our middles and opened things up on the outside. The outsides put the ball down consistently when they needed to.
"Our passing really shuts down at times and that is an area that we really need to improve on."
On the consistency:
"Anytime that we are hitting at the percentage we were against a team like Furman, I am happy. It came down to the wire and was a great match for our fans to watch. That is one that I wish we could have taken the W with us. We played hard enough and well enough to win."
On traveling to Samford on Wednesday:
"There is no question or hiding it, that is a must win. There is no down playing it or pretend that it does not exist. That is a must win for us to have a shot [at the SoCon Tournament]. We could still make the tournament, but that match it going to be big. We just need to continue playing like we did this weekend and we will be fine.
Sophomore Outside Hitter Meagan Ernd
On the match:
"I just thought that we had our defense playing well. We were picking up balls. Our middles were playing well, which opened up opportunities for the outsides and right sides."
On the consistent hitting:
"It is comforting to know that we can all backing each other up. I know that when I swing hard and get blocked, I know that my teammates are going to be there to pick that ball up. We just constantly came back and fought hard."
Sophomore Outside Heather Parman
On the team's consistent play:
"Whenever we can get the whole cycle going, the pass, set and hit, we are hard to stop."
On entering the fifth set:
"I know personally I was thinking that we are going to win this. There is no stopping us. We kept the momentum going. I think we all went into that fifth set like that. We were ahead the whole set until the end. It is just the small mistakes that we have to eliminate. Once, we fix those, then the potential is there for great things."
On any memorable moments in the match:
"I just remember block covering Meagan [Ernd] and her just getting kill after kill after kill. They just could not stop her. Paula [Passmore] was all over the place and Bailee's [Chastain] sets were really good."
On the outsides stepping up:
"Being an outside hitter, it is always great when things are going well for the two outsides. Everything that we each individually do goes into the team effort."
On getting ready for Samford on Wednesday
"This is definitely a must win if we want to see the SoCon tournament. I feel like we are peaking right now. I just wish were playing this well to start the conference play, which kind of set us back. I just wish that we were playing then like we are playing now. We need to continue to work hard going into the match."
