Soccer Falls 1-0 to Davidson in Road Finale

DAVIDSON, N.C. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 1-0 to Davidson Sunday afternoon in Southern Conference action in Davidson, N.C.

The Lady Mocs drop to 4-12-2 overall and 2-6-2 in league play while the Wildcats improve to 6-8-4 overall and gain their second league win to move to 2-4-4 in SoCon action.

"This team has been battling the last six or seven games," Lady Mocs Head Coach J.D. Kyzer said. "They worked really hard and did the best they could today. So many close and overtime games take their toll, but they have played hard and they have represented their school well."

Despite a 23-shot performance on the part of the Wildcats, the Lady Mocs held Davidson to just one goal while both of UTC's shots were both on goal. Freshman keeper Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) made eight saves on the day.

The Wildcat's goal came off a corner kick picked up by Stephanie Gerow. Her kick was deflected and teammate Rachael Newmister picked up the rebound to score the game winner and her first goal of the year in the 74th minute of play.

"Davidson is a good team that has struggled just like us," Kyzer said. "Their goal wasn't made on a play. It was a bounce that they were able to get their foot on and we didn't."

The Lady Mocs will host Samford in the Southern Rail Rivalry Matchup, a year-long series with the Bulldogs, and celebrate the career of seniors Serena Allen and Kelly Downs prior to the 6:00 p.m., kick-off at Finley Stadium.
