Soccer Falls to Cougars in Double-Overtime

CHARLESTON, S.C. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga women's soccer team fell 2-1 to the College of Charleston in double overtime in Southern Conference action Sunday afternoon at Patriot's Field.

The Cougars (6-6, 3-1 SoCon) jumped on the Lady Mocs (3-9, 1-3 SoCon) early with a goal by Sloane Levin in the second minute to take the quick lead.

"We came out flat," Lady Mocs Head Coach J.D. Kyzer said. "After that we got mad and started playing. It was a tight game the whole way."

Midway through the first half, sophomore Kelsey Swann (Hixson, Tenn.) had a goal called back that would have evened the match. However, junior Donna-Kay Henry (Queens Village, N.Y.) did score the equalizer in the second half on a sprint down the field, eluding defenders and getting past the keeper to tie the match 1-1 in the 51st minute.

After giving up the early goal, freshman keeper Taylor Mangrum (Franklin, Tenn.) had 18 saves, fourth most in school history in a game and her third double-digit saves game. She would not allow another goal through regulation and the first 16 minutes of the overtime periods.

At the 6:33 mark of the second overtime, the Cougars' Maryam Buazza caught a rebound off a save by Mangrum and sent the shot to the back of the net for the sudden victory.

"We had chances and they had chances in both overtime periods," Kyzer said. "It was a very even game and either team could have won, but we came up on the short end. The kids really worked their tails off and played a very solid game."

The Lady Mocs will return home this weekend to host Wofford Friday evening at Finley stadium. The game will kick-off at 7 p.m. and admission is free. Live stats and streaming video will be available at GoMocs.com.
