Postmatch Quotes
Samford 3, Chattanooga 0
Maclellan Gym
Chattanooga, Tenn.
Oct. 6, 2010
Associate Head Coach James Onikeku
On the match:
“We started playing and I thought we were looking good, but
this is what we have done all year. We
are waiting for them to make a mistake. I thought that we could have taken the
first set and we had our chances but just could not push through and get the
win. Samford is good, they have a good team and
their right side is good.”
On the best performer today:
“I don't think our setting was very good because we put out
hitters in a bad situation. They are a
big team, and we set the ball so tight that the outside couldn't work on
anything. Defensively, we did okay and
then we have one mental lapse and waited for somebody else.”
On third set:
“Lets not give up, lets keep fighting and then it's the same
story. We would give up an easy point
and were falling for the ball that could have been picked it up."
Sophomore Outside Hitter Kristen Beasley
On the atmosphere:
“Coming out here tonight, we were ready to go. The fans had a real good energy and it was
nice to come out and have that kind of support. We knew this was a big game and
the hype got us more excited.”
On your individual performances over the past couple of match:
“Coach [Onikeku] has been having us write down personal goals to work
on. For me. I'm working on smarter swings, harder serves, and just better
defense to where I can look to be in the right spot.”
On competing against conference teams:
“We know that the teams we are playing are good teams, but
we also know that if we play to a potential as a team that we know that we are
better. We have to come together as a
team and just do it.”
Senior Setter Bailee Chastain
On the record setting crowd tonight:
“Before the game we talked about playing for something
bigger than us and about getting a win, so I think that was in the back of our
minds. It was great to see 30 minutes
before the match started the stands were filled. The cause is really great and I hope that the
fans continue their support and they will want to come out and see more
matches.”
On the start of the match:
“We were all ready to play and we came out and played
well. I'm not sure what point we lost
control of the set, but they started to play their tempo. I don't think that we let up but we let them
take control of the pace of the game.”
On the third set:
“I think that has been the story of this year, we just can't
get that momentum that would give us a bigger lead. We tend to let our opponents
make two big plays to our one big play and just were unable to finish.”
On this weekend's matches:
“It is not going to get any easier. They are both good teams and are coming off of at least one victory last weekend. They
are going to come in ready to play and ready to win. We just have to be ready to go and play our game for the entire match.”
