Chattanooga Football – Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga at The Citadel
Johnson Hagood Stadium – Charleston, S.C.

Head coach Russ Huesman
On the win:
"Great win. Great win. I told those guys. All the whooping and hollering they did. They deserved every whoop and holler had in there. That second half was a great second half. We played great besides the one turnover. Defensively, they had 190-plus yards in the first half and held them to 260 total. It was a great job on defense. Offense did a great job of driving the ball and keeping it. It was a great team win for us."
On Kadeem Wise's interception:
"It was a huge play and I gave him the game ball there because he broke a record. When I was trying to give him the game ball, everybody was yelling and screaming, but I wanted to explain how important that pick was at the time he made that pick. It was huge."
On the next drive by the offense:
"In the first half, we did not play very good defense. Give them credit, they had a great scheme. They were doing some things that we have not seen and they were blocking us. It was not only us, but them doing it. In the second half, we told our kids that we looked like we were running in mud out there. We were making some mental mistakes and got it corrected. Our kids played really well in the second half."
On the play of Ryan Consiglio:
"He is a good player. You hope that guys at that position make a lot of plays. Anytime that they got the ball on the perimeter in the option game, we were okay. I think our speed showed up there. Some inside stuff was hurting us a little bit."
Junior Quarterback BJ Coleman
On the win and the big second conversions:
"Absolutely, these guys have gotten in their work through practice. We try to make practice as intense as possible. We put ourselves in third down situations, where few have to convert. We came out today and had some big conversions on third down. I know that Marlon Anthony had two on the slant. Joel Bradford had one as well. Brian Sutherland did a great job. These guys came out here ready to play. Our offensive line, I have to tip my hat to those guys. They allowed us on that last drive to really push it down the field 95 yards and eat up a lot of clock, which they were doing most of the game. You have to give them credit. Our offense did a good job and capitalized on some big plays to come away with a victory."
On the rhythm with playing against a ball controlling option team like The Citadel:
"It is tough and is something that we have prepared for. We are well understanding of the type of offense that we are going against and what they can do. They ate up a lot of clock. We have Georgia Southern next week and they are a great football team. They have had a lot of success in running the option in the past and just recently went back to it. We are going to have to capitalize on our possessions. They have a great defense next week and we look forward to the challenge."
On the running of Keon Williams as the game progressed:
"He is a huge asset for us. He is really coming along as freshman and had a great week in practice. It showed out here in the game.
"Erroll Wynn did a great job. He had one ball on the ground and that is something that we can't have. We can't turn the football over and expect to win. He knew that and we knew it as well. Erroll will be back and ready to roll, Keon did a heck of a job."
Junior Linebacker Ryan Consiglio
On the defensive effort in the second half:
"The best defense is having a good offense. I don't think that we were on the field at all in the fourth quarter. My hats off to them. They took the ball 95 yards and took 10 minutes off the clock. That is all that you can ask for from the offense."
On what changes the team made at halftime:
"I felt like we were not running to the ball as well as we could have. At some points, that was true. We just came in and corrected that at halftime. We came out in the second half and did our job that we worked on all week, which made a huge difference. "
On the adjustments as the game progressed:
"We just did what we were taught all week. There was a little bit of confusion maybe in that first half. It is hard no matter what you practice all week. It is still different when you get out and see it for real. I think we just needed to settle down a little bit more than anything. We just started doing our assignments and you can see what happens when we do what we are supposed to."
On preparing for Georgia Southern after limiting the option in the second half:
"I think it is great. We came in here and did what we needed to do against The Citadel. Georgia Southern is a great team. They are having a good year. Our scout team will be fresh and they know how to run this offense. They really helped us this week and I think they will be even better next week, which will definitely help even more. Turning around and playing another team that is similar. There really is not a lot that you have to prepare for. You just have to keep working on your assignments and making sure that you are even more sound come next week.
On the interception by Kadeem Wise in the endzone:
"It was absolutely amazing and broke the freshman record. That play was huge in every way imaginable. It was huge because we needed it at the time. It was huge for him and kept them out of the endzone. If the guy catches it, the games goes from 21-10 to 21-17, a completely different turnaround. That play was huge and Kadeem has been doing that all season. He is a great player and I am happy that he broke it on that play."
Freshman Defensive Back Kadeem Wise
On getting the game ball from coach Huesman:
"He gave me a game ball for breaking his old freshman record. He said that I normally don't give out game balls, but since he broke my record. I guess I will give it to him."
On how you came down with the ball:
"I had a feeling that they were going to throw the ball on that play. I saw him raise up, so I made sure to get back, so I got myself in position. Since the receiver was so tall. I knew that I had to deflect the ball instead of knocking it down. I stuck my hand out there. It just so happened to jump up in the air. Then, it was a jump ball from there and I grabbed it."
