Chattanooga Quotes
Coach Russ Huesmann
Opening Statements:
"That was a great win; I think that all phases of the team played well. We made plays, tackled, and played aggressive. The team went in without a lot of talking because the guys knew that we were not finished with the season. Every week this team comes out and plays. We were a lot more aggressive on defense and made some tackles, so it was a great day for us."
On tackling improvements:
"The whole aggressive nature was so much better, just going after the ball carrier. We were penetrating and that makes a big difference."
On Kadeem Wise:
"He has looked great all year, we trust him on the field and he has six interceptions and a few breakups. He's a great player; he should be an all-conference player for us."
On meeting expectations:
"I didn't know what to expect today, but I was glad to see our first couple of series and we knew where we were supposed to be."
On Brian Sutherland:
"He can run. He is another player that we knew was going to be a great player. He is good and works hard in practice, so we just think the world of him."
On the passing game:
"We had a great day passing when we throw it only 20 times and gained over 300 yards of passing."
On starting seniors:
"Erroll Wynn, Jaron Norfleet, and Courtlin Elzy and some of the guys couldn't start just because it would have gone against our gameplan. We wanted to throw some big plays to start out the game so we had to have Joel (Bradford) and Brian (Sutherland) in there."
Joel Bradford, wide receiver, junior
On the game
I thought we played a great game, both offensively and defensively. Offensively we had one turnover that was a questionable call, but regardless 550 yards of total offense and 48 points is a great day for the offense. The defense came out here with a chip on their shoulder and they only allowed 14 points. They played great with high energy and enthusiasm. It was a great day for Chattanooga football.
On this season's expectations
We expected some big things this season. We expected playoffs. Obviously it was a goal to have a winning season, but the playoffs were our major goal. It will be a dream come true to make the playoffs for the first time since 1987. These seniors, this program and this town deserve to make the playoffs. We are going to bust our butts this upcoming week. Wofford is a great team so we have to go down there and take care of business.
Brian Sutherland, wide receiver, sophomore
On the team
We were very productive today and, as a whole, I think this was the best game we've had all season. Coming from the special teams we had a blocked punt, but offensively we came in and put a great game together.
Chris Harr, left tackle, senior
On how far this team has come
Just thinking back on what we've come from, how we haven't been as good as we have, and becoming a dominant team in the Southern Conference is a great feeling for us. Coming from where we were at makes it that much better. Having a 6-5 record is great, but we're not satisfied with that. When we walked into the locker room, nobody was really cheering because we know what we have ahead of us. We play a great team next week and if we win that one then we have a playoff game. It is exciting for all of us.
BJ Coleman, quarterback, junior
On the offensive explosion
I have to contribute the passing yards to the offensive line. Receivers got open, and Samford's defense is nothing to squirm at. They are very, very good football players and I think Bryce Smith was one of the pre-season all-American players. They had a lot of speed and they are big. I am proud of how our guys worked. We came out, we executed and I thought the guys did a great job after making the catch gaining yards.
On the running game
We had 200 yards rushing and I am proud of Keon Williams and Erroll Wynn. We came into this game knowing it was do-or-die, and the preparation this team made for this week way phenomenal. We have some things we need to clean up, but I thought we played great overall.
Samford Quotes
Samford Head Coach Pat Sullivan
On Chattanooga
Chattanooga is a very good football team. On offense they have a good quarterback, a good scheme and they have good wideouts. The offensive line played well and the running backs are both really good players. Defensively they have ability if they can stay healthy. Buster Skrine is a good corner back, and they have some other players that are really good. They did a good job.
On today's game
This is the most frustrated I have been since I have been at Samford. We didn't play like we're capable of playing and I could see it coming. Not to make excuses, a lot of them played a lot of plays and stuff like that but you only get so many opportunities before you have to win. We didn't play like we know how to play. Like I told the players, thank God we have one more game to play. I don't want to carry this sick feeling that I have in my stomach for the next eight months. We haven't played our best football game of the year, but as far as today is concerned you have to tip your hat to Chattanooga. They are a really good football team. They played well and made big plays. They didn't give us a chance.
