Head Coach Russ Huesman
Opening Statement:
"We did not play well. We did not coach well. I feel bad for
the seniors and told them that in there [locker room]. We did not send them out
the right way, but this program has made an unbelievable amount of progress in
two years because of those guys in that room. I am proud of them. This is not
what we wanted obviously, but we will regroup and be better next year."
On the overall on the season:
"I told them that it wasn't a failure. I told them exactly
that and mapped it out for them. I told them that they were 6-5 last year and
nobody expected that. We got better this year. Our record was better this year
and we got better. As long as we are making strides and getting better every
year, we are on the right track."
On the play today:
"We did not play well and were tentative when the ball was
in the air. They popped the one early and probably never should have popped
that one. We had 11 guys out there and that is all that we can play with. That
is all we got and did not have a whole lot to come in. I don't know. We will
watch the film and see what happened, but our kids have played hard all year. I
am proud of them."
On being this close to making the playoffs:
"Any loss is disappointing. Every single solitary loss that
we have or ever will have is disappointing and gut wrenching. This one is no
different. This was a loss. We did not play well. It is the same as losing to
Appalachian State. It is the same gut wrenching feeling and it hurts just as
much in there as it did for App., Elon and anybody that we loss to. They are
all the same. A loss is a loss no matter when it happens, how it happens. This
one is no different."
On things being out of sorts:
"I think that was true on both sides of the ball. They did some
really good things on offense and kept us off balance. They are good. We will
get better. We have everyone back on defense but Buster [Skrine] and [Jaron]
Norfleet, so we should be better. Offensively, we lose some really good key players,
but we have a lot of playmakers back. We will be better next year. I guarantee it."
Junior Quarterback B.J. Coleman
On the fumble at the goal line:
"They are a good football team. Tip your hat to them, don't
take anything away from them. Wofford did a great job and had a great game
plan. I felt like that we had a good plan. We executed it early for a short
time, but could not get in a good rhythm and set into what we wanted to do. It
is going to bite you against a good team like this. We wish them well in the
playoffs. Our men, I am so proud of them. They have busted their rear ends all
year. They have created this and the Mocs will be back. That is a cool thing to
be able to say. Where we were a couple of years ago, we were not even
contending. These guys to be where we they are now is a phenomenal feat. I am
very proud of these men."
On the some of the overthrows early:
"I take full responsibility. Their three men down front did
a good job of getting in some windows and did not want to throw some costly
turnovers early, so for a couple of times I would not mind saying that I am
high every now and again. For the most part, they did a good job of keep us out
of sync. Sometimes there is days that you just don't have it. Today, I take
full responsibility. It is a definate learning tool and we will get better."
Junior Wide Receiver Joel Bradford
On the game today:
"Give credit to Wofford. They had a great game plan. We shot
ourselves in the foot a bunch of times, but give credit to Wofford, they are a
great football team."
On having a hard time getting the offense started:
"They had a great scheme and everything, but they played
coverages that we went against before. We ran with the same pass concepts
before. I don't know what was happening. We just were not connecting. Today was
not a day for us to connect on all the passes that we were doing. Running the
ball was okay and we get to the one foot line and fumble. It was just that
things did not go our way.We knew against Furman that we were down 20-plus
points. We were trying to come back. We had
the same attitude because we have been here before. Lets just keep doing
our thing, connect, run the ball and protect. The defense is going to make
stops and things just did not go our way."
On being proud of the finish this season:
"I will tell you one thing. This 6-5 season does
not feel like we were 6-5. I feel like we lost two games. It is a weird feeling,
but this season for me at a personal level I take more responsibility."
