TEAM
- The Mocs improve to 4-5 on the year with a 67-65 win over Western Carolina...UTC is 2-0 in SoCon play for the first time since 2007-08.
- UTC is now 629-379 (.624) as a DI program (34th season).
- Head Coach John Shulman is 109-95 (.534) in his seventh year...56-52 (.519) in SoCon action...Shulman is 6-1 against WCU at home...8-5 overall.
- Western's last win in Chattanooga was 73-67 on Jan. 8, 2007...Mocs have won the last four in McKenzie...UTC won the first 20 games in Chattanooga in the series between 1970-99.
- It was a frigid first half as both teams combined to shoot 24.1% (13-54) from the field and 16.7% (4-24) from 3-pt. range...the Catamounts were especially chilly, hitting just 15.2% (5-33) from the field in the opening 20 minutes.
- Chattanooga held the Catamounts scoreless for over eight minutes in the first half...Ritchie Gordon made a layup at the 9:08 mark to make the score 14-13 in favor of the Mocs...WCU did not score again until Tawaski King hit a FT with 1:01 left on the clock in the first to make the score 21-13.
- Despite the paltry shooting, the Mocs could not pull away, thanks to 13 turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
- UTC only committed three turnovers in the second half.
- Western Carolina shot 50.0% (16-32) from the field and 41.2% (7-17) from 3-pt. range in the second half...UTC still held the Catamounts to a season-low 32.3% (21-65) from the field.
- The Mocs bench outscored WCU 21-6...UTC's reserves have outscored the opponents' bench 45-15 in the last two games.
- Chattanooga's 50 rebounds are the most in a game since grabbing 59 against Virginia Intermont on Nov. 13, 2009.
- The Mocs were 16-18 from the FT line in the last five minutes of the game.
- Chattanooga is 4-1 on the year in games that are within five points with five minutes remaining.
- 10 of the 11 Mocs who played today scored.
INDIVIDUAL
Junior Keegan Bell
- Tied for game-high with six assists.
- Just one turnover in 38 minutes.
- Team-high 13 points on 4-10 shooting, 0-3 from 3-pt. range and 5-6 from the FT line.
- Has 32 assists and just 4 TOs in 136 minutes in the Mocs' four wins.
- Leads the SoCon with a 3.0 assist-turnover ratio.
Junior Chris Early
- 12 points on 3-5 shooting, 1-1 from 3-pt. range and 5-6 from the FT line.
- Added seven rebounds.
- Second-straight game in double figures...fifth overall.
- Only played 20 minutes due to foul trouble.
Senior DeAntre Jefferson
- Tied a career-high with 11 rebounds.
- Added seven points on 2-2 shooting and 3-6 from the FT line.
Junior Ricky Taylor
- 11 points...second-straight game in double figures...fifth overall.
- Shot 2-7 from the field, 0-3 from 3-pt. range and 7-7 from the FT line.
- Career-high in makes and attempts from the charity stripe.
Sophomore Sam Watson
- Made both free throws for two points in the game.
- Played nine minutes due to foul trouble with the Mocs front line.
- Grabbed a pair of rebounds and a steal.
