Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga 7, Western Carolina 5
Frost Stadium
Chattanooga, Tenn.
Head Coach Frank Reed
On starting out slow:
"I'm not sure what the problem is. There is a difference in coming to play and being your best every day, and, honestly, I am just stumped on what I need to do to get the girls to step up. I'm not sure what buttons to push. Sometimes I don't have to push any buttons at all, but they weren't clicking today. All I know is that we need some of the upperclassmen to step up and challenge them."
On Brooke Loudermilk:
"She will come out and throw two great pitches and be 0-2 in the count, but then struggle to 3-2. She may even come out and throw two bad pitches, then go to 2-2. Her consistency is just not there. Obviously, we need her to be better. I know the illegal pitches are weighing heavy on her mind."
On opposing pitcher Katie King:
"I would have left the starter in. She had our number and we will probably see her again tomorrow. We need to figure her out and read the scouting report again. We have to sit on her changeup tomorrow because we didn't do a good job on it today."
Senior Outfielder Kaiti Kelly
Thoughts on the team's errors:
"I was just watching thinking that we needed to relax and play ball. Before the game we got to the cages an hour and a half before warm-ups and we had a talk. We said we needed to have fun today with no pressure and we were not doing that at all. It was disappointing to look at my teammates and know that they weren't relaxed. I could see it all-over everybody's faces because we were missing routine plays."
On her game-winning hit:
"I felt like they intentionally walked Lyndsey Stiles just to get an easy situation for their defense. I knew then that I was going to prove them wrong because I knew what they were trying to do. They were trying to make an easy play because they expect a slapper to hit the ball into the dirt, and only in the dirt, so that way they expect an easy out. Typically, I hit closer toward the middle, so all they were going to have to do was tag second base. It was a slap towards me and I used it was motivation when I stepped up to the plate."
Freshman First Baseman Kasey Tydingco
Thoughts on the game:
"I knew that we weren't going to lose this game. It was just a matter of who was going to step up and do something."
On Reed's meeting at the circle:
"Coach Reed's meeting with us in the middle of the diamond was to tell us to let the errors go and focus on the game. Western Carolina came out here with nothing to lose. We knew that we needed to take the pressure off and go out and play like we know how."
On her day at the plate:
"I knew that none of their pitchers could throw it by me. I knew that if they threw it close that I was going to swing hard and get on base. We needed base runners so that we could score."
