Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga 3, Appalachian State 1; Appalachian State 2, Chattanooga 0
Sywassink/Lloyd Family Stadium
Boone, N.C.
Head Coach Frank Reed
On the lineup changes:
"Actually, I like it. I like Kasey at two because she provides a little bit more pop there. Unfortunately, she was unable to get the squeeze down [in the seventh inning of game one]. I think that I am going to stay with it. Kasey came up in a couple of times and had opportunities to drive in some runs and did a good job of hitting the ball. I thought that she hit that ball out in the second game."
On hitting the ball hard:
"We had some balls that were hit hard, but I felt like we did not get a break all afternoon. They were able to get a few bloops in and some balls that scooted through the infield. One ball that Nikki [Waters] hit almost knocked the fielder off her feet in the air."
On Kandice Irwin's performance:
"Kandice pitched awesome. She got us out of two innings where they were all over us and struck out seven. Normally, Kandice is not a notorious strikeout pitcher, but she had a great outing today."
Freshman First Baseman Kasey Tydingco
On the single high off the right field fence:
"It was the first inside pitch that I had seen all day. Lyndsey got on and I know that I had to move her over at least to do my job. That was the first inside pitch, so I just jumped on it."
Junior Lyndsey Stiles
On the ball off the fence that Kasey Tydingco hit:
"All I heard was get back and tag [from first base coach Brad Irwin]. I was on first base and was not even watching the ball. I did not even know that they were making a play at second base. I dove in to second and was safe."
On the offensive struggles by the team:
"We were hitting it. We had a lot of hard line drive hits that they just caught. I do not know that there was anything that we were doing specifically wrong because we made adjustments. I just think that we hit the ball where they were positioned."
Junior Kandice Irwin
On coming in a tough situation, one out and the bases loaded:
"I kind of felt more comfortable because in the last game against Elon, I felt like I was not in my rhythm. We had a two-run lead and I feel like with any of our pitchers as long as we have a lead we can hold them."
On starting off with a strikeout looking:
"It is kind more of a boost, personally for me. It helps with your momentum and gets your adrenaline going. You gain confidence and it helps me to feed off a start like that."
On the slow-motion change up:
"Obviously, I feel like when it is on, it is my best pitch. I definitely struggle with it the most, so when it works like that you definitely want to do a little fist pump. It is a little boost when I can establish it, so the other team knows that you can go to it more. Then, they always have it in the back of their minds."
On having three different speeds of pitches:
"When all my pitches are on, the different speeds helps to keep the hitters even more off balance. It keeps them on their toes and they never know when it is coming. I only threw it once, but I am sure that they were thinking that I could have thrown it again."
On an extended outing:
"I feel like I pitch that long even when I am in the bullpen, but it is just not in a game situation. I am used to throwing a lot because I do throw consistently during both games. It is just during the game I have a different mindset."
