ROCKY FACE, Ga. --- The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team is tied for sixth at the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic at the Farm after Saturday's second round. The Mocs shot three-under par 285 to move into a tie for sixth with Auburn at 575 (-1).
Clemson is the second round leader at 10-under par 566. Alabama, which set the first round pace, is second with a 567 (-9), while Georgia Tech lurks five strokes off the lead at minus five, 571.
Junior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) and sophomore Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) fired a pair of 69s (-3), while true freshman Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) carded his first collegiate sub-par round with a two-under 70. The trio was instrumental in the Mocs trailing Clemson's low round of 283 by just two shots.
Turning at even par, Jaeger registered three birdies on the way in for his 69. With four birdies and 13 pars on his card, Jaeger moved into a tie for seventh overall at four-under, 140.
Bunn was just as consistent. He had one less birdie with three, to go with an extra par for 14 on the round. He bogeyed the first hole and then played minus three the rest of the way and is tied for 18th at 145 (+1).
Fox continued his strong play with his second straight 69. He had a career high seven birdies to move to six-under par, 138, for the tourney. That places him tied for fourth which is where he started the day.
He is three strokes off the pace set by Auburn's Blayne Barber who followed a first round 67 with a 68 to stand at nine-under par, 135. Wake Forest's Evan Beck is second at 136 (-8), while Clemson's Jacob Burger is third at minus seven, 137, after shooting the low round of the day with a 65.
Redshirt freshmen Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) each shot 77s (+5) for the second round. Robb is tied for 48th at 152, while Weilguni has a total 158 which has him tied for 57th.
Chattanooga is paired in the final round with Tennessee and Texas Tech. Weilguni will lead the Mocs off the 10th hole at 8:50 a.m., followed by Robb, Bunn, Jaeger and Fox. Live scoring is available on GoMocs.com on the men's golf schedule page.
