ROCKY FACE, Ga. --- On a blustery Sunday with lightning fast greens, the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team shot 305 in the final round to end up tied for eighth at the Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic Sunday afternoon at the Farm. The Mocs tied with Tennessee at 880 which was four shots out of a tied for sixth between Georgia and Texas Tech.
Alabama claimed the title with an eight-under par total of 856. The Crimson Tide topped Wake Forest by four, 860 (-4), as Georgia Tech and Clemson tied for third at 862 (-2).
Chattanooga got off to a good start and was just four-over par through 12 holes. But the final six proved costly as the Mocs played the difficult trek at 13-over par to tumble back past Georgia and TTU to tie Tennessee in eighth place.
"I am really proud of our effort," said head coach . "We played well through 48 holes, just need to finish stronger. That's the only disappointing part of the weekend.Mark Guhne
"This performance has me very optimistic," he continued. "There is a lot of talent on this team."
Sophomore (Hendersonville, Tenn.) was the top UTC finisher with a top 10 in the prestigious event. Fox's 75 tied for team low on the day with true freshman (Knoxville, Tenn.). Fox ended up at three-under par 213.Davis BunnSteven Fox

Redshirt freshmen (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and (Langelois, Austria) each shot 78s (+6) to end the first tourney of their career. Robb wound up tied for 49th at 230 (+14), while Weilguni tallied a total of 236 (+20) placing him in 57th.Benni WeilguniChris Robb
The Demon Deacons ended up with the top two individuals. Lee Bedford's 10-under par 206 topped teammate Evan Beck's 208 (-8) by two. Auburn's Blayne Barber was third at 210 (-6).
There is no rest for the weary. Four of the Mocs - Fox, Bunn, Robb and Weilguni - head on to Florence, S.C., with true freshman Jackson Lockhart (Huntsville, Ala.). The quintet tee up tomorrow at the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate at the Country Club of South Carolina, site of the 2011 Southern Conference Championship.
The tourney is played tomorrow and Tuesday and will challenge the young Mocs endurance. Live scoring is available on GoMocs.com on the men's golf schedule page.
