Chattanooga Youngsters Impress Standing in Second on Day One at Springhill Suites Intercollegiate

| By:

FLORENCE, S.C. --- It was a strong day for the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team as it stands in second-place at the Springhill Suites Intercollegiate at the Country Club of South Carolina.  The tournament is played at the site of the Southern Conference Championship in April

The Mocs travelled with a sophomore and four freshmen to the event and posted two under-par team rounds to shoot five-under par 571.  One of those freshmen, Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland), leads the tourney after rounds of 66 and 69 has him at nine-under, par 135.

Georgia College leads the event by nine strokes over UTC.  The Bobcats shot rounds of 280 and 282 and is at 14-under par, 562.  Jacksonville State is in third at 572, one shot behind the Mocs.

Sophomore Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is tied for eighth at two-under par 142.  Fox shot 70-72 and now has shot par or better rounds in four of five rounds on the young season.

Freshman Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) is a shot back of Fox at minus one, 143, tied for 11th.  He continues to impress with three par or better rounds thus far.

The other two newcomers on the trip struggled in round one and righted the ship in the second.  Jackson Lockhart (Huntsville, Ala.) carded rounds of 77 and 75 and is tied for 57th at 152 (+8).  Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) answered his opening 80 with a two-over par 74 and is tied for 67th at 154.

Robb owns a three-shot cushion over a quintet of golfers at six under, 138.  Fox is tied with two others, four shots behind second and three out of seventh.

Tomorrow's final round will pair the Mocs with Georgia College and JSU.  Weilguni leads off followed by Lockhart, Bunn, Fox and Robb.
