Postgame Quotes vs. Eastern Kentucky

Chattanooga Football - Postgame Notes
Eastern Kentucky at Chattanooga
Finley Stadium - Chattanooga, Tenn.
Sept. 28, 2010

Chattanooga Head Coach Russ Huesman
Opening Statement:
"Great win. We needed that win so bad. I mean they were pretty happy in the locker room. We had to have it. Our kids knew we had to have that win. I am so proud of them. There wasn't even anything hardly I could say to them except enjoy the win, remember the feelings of wins and just be smart tonight. I'm proud of the guys."

On the the dynamic duo of junior quarterback B.J. Coleman and junior wide receiver Joel Bradford:
"'That was a pretty smart move by moving Joel over there wasn't it [the move from safety to wide receiver]." And then Joel backed me last year. He probably would have had 6000 yards by now if we would have moved him last year. B.J. throws to the right guys and a lot of the throws we had called just happened to be to him. But Joel made all the catches he had to and that one down the sideline was huge. He probably knew if we didn't complete it, I was going to rip him. So that was a gutsy call. I think he did a great job on offense. BJ did great job running the offense. Joel was fantastic. Errol ran hard. Keon ran hard. Some big first downs, we needed them.

"We got a long way to go up front though. A long way to go. I don't even know how many holding calls we had and missed assignments. We got to shore that up and have to shore that up really quick."

On Errol Wynn's 37-yard run that lead to a touchdown before half:
"As soon as we got the ball, Satt [coach Marcus Satterfield] always asks me in that situation what we want to do and I said Satt lets be conservative on the first play. Let's hand the ball to Erroll and then lets see where we go from there and that was huge."

On Offensive:
"Well we got weapons. Maybe that's what you are talking about. We got weapons all the way across the board. It's not just Joel. Brian Sutherland makes big catches and runs for us. Pitch makes a big catch on the slant down there. Marlon Anthony had some great catches. He's going to be a great one for us. So, we got weapons there on the outside and then with Keon and Erroll. Those kids run the ball really well. We got weapons. Like I said we need to get better up front and had too many critical penalties. Too many times B.J.'s running for his life. That's not good enough up front.

On blocked punt that cut the score to 35-24:
"I was screaming and I coach the punt team, so that's on me. That's completely on me. It took a lot of nerve for me to go around to Satt, and say you better get some first downs brother. He probably looked at me and said you better protect the punt. He didn't say that, but that's was critical that we took it down and scored like we did .That was huge."

On senior cornerback Buster Skrine:
"It was good having him back. I think he played the whole game. He came out at one point in time. We didn't start him because he hadn't practiced in a while. Buster was close. If you notice and if you look this game, I mean he didn't practice much but I told Buster coming in. I said Buster, just cover your guy and don't get fancy. I don't want you to get shoulders, hips, feet, you got that guy and you cover him. And early in the game, he was getting close. He was a lot closer than he was against App State. And the guy caught one on him, a 15 yarder and he was close. I grabbed him on the sideline and said Buster man, you're a NFL prospect. You go out there and play like a NFL prospect. And then, he picks the next one off. It was a great play. He came off the field and I said that's my NFL guy right there. But to answer it, I mean it's great to have him back. He's a leader, player, great worker and I love the kid. "

Junior Wide Receiver Joel Bradford
On the game:
"People in the first half were telling me 'hey man, keep going,' but we weren't really thinking numbers. It is a team game. The offensive linemen, blocking, did a heck of a job, and the running game was clicking. Everything was just clicking for us and I think everybody played well."

Junior Quarterback BJ Coleman

On the game:
"When something breaks down you can't give up. When you can't throw it you have to make it with your legs. And when you can't make it with your legs, you have to find another way to win. Eastern Kentucky is a heck of a football team. They are a heck of an 0-3 team. I have to tip my hat to guys like Joel Bradford and Sloan Allison, because when those guys come out and play it guarantees us a chance at winning. I can't say enough about those guys out there busting it and doing everything they can for this team. We have our first win and now we have to go get win number two. All we can focus on now is Western Carolina."

Eastern Kentucky Head Coach Dean Hood
On the game:
"We allowed too many points that we shouldn't have. Chattanooga is a team that in the second half that has blown leads, so we just had to keep hanging in there and keep bugging them. It looked like the game was about to turn there in the second, but to their credit, Chattanooga, made plays when they had to, to keep it from turning."

On what he saw in the game:

"I have saw receivers catching, the quarterback passing, and the running back running the ball up our gut. I saw defenders sacking our quarterback and guys picking off balls."

On Chattanooga as a team:

"Chattanooga was the tough team that we expected them to be. We talked all week about this being a team that should have, would have and could have beat Appalachian State and Jacksonville State. Those are two great teams and Chattanooga sat there at 0-2. Chattanooga is a really good football team in a really good league."
