Head Coach Lisa Rhodes
On the comeback against UCF:
"It was amazing comeback after dropping the first set. It showed that we still had some fight in us. Maybe, it was just
too quick of a turnaround after that kind of emotional win.
Then, turnaround and play a very good JMU team."
On the learning experiences from last weekend against North
Florida:
"I think it did. Once, we pushed it to the fifth set. We
started to play with the confidence that you need to have and we kind of had
them back on their heels a little bit. It was a great win against a great team.
I think the turnaround time to play James Madison was probably too much to put
on the kids. I am not going to take anything away from them because their defense
was phenomenal. We swung hard and did some good things. Everything just seemed
to go their way."
On the play of Ellie Kuhn:
"Her blocking was phenomenal. We would not have even been in
a fifth set with UCF if she had not gotten those blocks towards the end of the
fourth. Her blocking has come around. I also think her confidence level in
hitting has come around, which makes her want the ball. We
need people that want the ball, and can step up and make the plays when you need them."
On the outside depth showing up against UCF:
"I think we are deep. They are returning sophomores that
should be in that position. Anytime that you are counting on a freshman to
handle the load, you are going to take your ups and downs. That is what we did
with Jennifer [Kuroski], she can play amazing and then play like a freshman."
On the change at setter in the middle of the UCF match:
"It is just the same thing with her being a freshman. She
still is not consistent enough, where she can say this is my position and
demanding that it is her spot.
"I think that her sets are a lot faster. The hitters know
that they have to come in a lot faster and spreads the offense from pin to pin
a little bit better."
Sophomore Ellie Kuhn
On the comeback against UCF:
"We have a lot of fight. The game against UCF really
triggered a lot fight and our defense was unbelievable. The defense is the key
in our games. When our defense is on, I really do believe that we are
unstoppable."
On your blocking:
"Blocking is really tricky. I have some great outsides and right
side that help me set up for those. I do feel when you get a block, momentum goes towards your team. because it gets you
pumped up and helps out your defense. Paula did a great job for us playing the back
row."
Sophomore Outside Hitter Heather Parman
On the UCF match:
"My kills were a product of some good sets and even better
passes. We had a lot of chemistry in that match. Everyone was encouraging one
another and we just gelled in that
match."
On the comeback:
"I think we got our confidence back because our serve-receive
passing was better. There are some really good servers on UCF. Once that came
together, everything else came naturally for us because we are a great hitting
team and have some great setters. It just starts with the pass."
On the play in the
fifth set:
"Playing these tough teams have benefitted us and helped us
finish the match. It helped us to fight for it. The fifth set really showed how
much we have come together as a team, so far."
