FRANKLIN, Tenn. --- True freshman Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) shot a second straight round in the 60s with a three-under par 68 to lead the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga to a tie for seventh at the Mason Rudolph Intercollegiate. Chattanooga shot two-over par 286 in the final round for a 54-hole total of 858 (+6).
Bunn followed up a second round 67 with his 68. Over his final 36 holes, he carded nine birdies against just two bogeys. He led the Mocs tied for 26th at 215 (+2).
Memphis won the event with a 10-under par 842. South Carolina shot 844 (-8) to end up second followed by Ole Miss at 847 (-5)
It was an overall solid team round as the drop score was two-over par 73. Bunn's 68 was the only par or better round, however. For the three days, Chattanooga's 1-5 scores were separated by just four strokes.
Sophomore Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) shot a plus one 72 on the day to end up second on the team at 216 (+3). The trio of Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland), Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) and Simon Forsslund (Stockholm, Sweden) shared the drop score of 73 (+1).
Each did it differently. Jaeger opened with 11 straight pars before a double bogey at 12. After a birdie on the par five 14th, he bogeyed the par three 16th for his two-over par round.
Forsslund was one under through 12 with three birdies. A double bogey on the par three 13th stalled his round as he finished with four pars and a bogey on 17 to end up at 73. Robb was one-under through six but also had a double bogey, his on the par four 10th, to help end up at plus two.
"We played OK," said head coach Mark Guhne. ""There has to be more than one low score. But at the same time, we were very consistent over the last two rounds. If 73 or 74 is our drop score the rest of the way, we will have an outstanding season."
The Mocs are off until Oct. 8-10 returning to the Brickyard Collegiate. The 54-hole event is played at the Brickyard at Riverside in Macon, Ga.
