Postgame Quotes
Western Carolina at Chattanooga
Chattanooga, Tenn. - Finley Stadium

Oct. 15, 2011

Chattanooga Head Coach Russ Huesman
Opening statement:
"It just feels good to get a win. We needed a win. It seems like forever since we won a football game here. I know it feels good. I think we played excellent in all three phases: offense, defense, kicking game. Probably other than maybe one kickoff return by them, I thought we played really well in all phases and got a lot of guys in the game. It was a really nice win for us. I'm really proud of our guys."

On moving the ball and scoring on the opening drive of the game:
"It was huge for us to have that success early and to pop the first one. That was probably as critical of a situation as there was in the game to have that happen early. I think what happened was that people thought that what we'd been practicing may work this week. I thought Terrell played really well. He's got to learn he can't take 10 and 15 yard sacks. He can't do it. There's just no way. It's going to come back to bite us. That's something he's got to learn in practice. We'll get him better."

On the play of the defense:
"They were excellent. Adam Fuller did an unbelievable job. We've got guys that can make plays. The caused fumbles, Consiglio scooping and scoring, DJ scoring; we've got good defensive players. Adam is putting them in great position and doing a fantastic job with them. I thought we got after their quarterback most of the day. I was really proud."

Western Carolina Head Coach Dennis Wagner
Opening Statement:
"I was disappointed. It was the most disappointing loss of our season. We got outplayed tonight, and we didn't do some things very well, I thought. Our offensive line has done a good job most of the season, but they didn't come to play. We couldn't run the ball we couldn't pass protect. We put our defense on the field a lot, and there some critical third down situations where Chattanooga couldn't get off the field. It is a combination of Chattanooga playing well and we didn't."

On the loss of junior guard Teddy Rhoney due to injury:
"It's a huge loss but we have to pick up the slack and go. We've got guys who have played before. Teddy is one of our better guys, but we're going to have to rely on guys like Roy Peterson and Dan Polaski to give us our lead."

On the absence of sophomore wide receiver Deja Alexander:
"It shouldn't have made that big of a difference. Obviously you like to have your best receiver on the field, but it shouldn't make that big of a difference."

On the defensive play of Chattanooga:
"Right now everything is kind of a blur. They probably scored off of three different turnovers. There was a scoop-and-score on a fumble, an interception for a touchdown and there might have been a third one."

On what Western Carolina has to do after the loss:
"You have to regroup. I told our guys there are still five games left in the season, and it will be a true test of our character to see what we're all about. Defensively we're going to play an option team that every week has gotten better and better. They proved that today against Appalachian and they're one of the top defenses in the conference. Each week we play we play one of the top defenses, and Chattanooga proved that tonight. We're going to have to play well offensively and there are a lot of things we have to get better on fast."
