MACON, Ga --- The 24th-ranked Chattanooga Mocs men's golf team is second after 36 holes at the AutoTrader.com Collegiate Classic at Berkeley Hills Country Club. UTC is three shots behind No. 10 North Florida with 18 holes to play.
Senior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) is second as well at after rounds of 72 (E) and 68 (-4). The second round four under total was especially impressive as Jaeger circumnavigated the 18 with a spotless card of four birdies and 14 pars. He had just three bogeys on the day against seven birdies and 26 pars.
Junior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is tied for third at two-under 142 with two 71s (-1) on his cards. He and Jaeger are chasing East Carolina's Harold Varner at minus five, 139.
UTC trailed the Osprey by two after the morning round. Both teams improved in the afternoon with UNF besting the Mocs by one for the second 18 to take a three shot lead into the final round. Georgia Southern is third at 584 with ECU one behind in fourth at 585.
Freshman Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) returned to the lineup shooting 74 and 73 for a three-over par 147. He is tied for 19th. Sophomore Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) is tied for 25th at 149, while sophomore Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounds out the squad in 66th at 158.
Chattanooga also has two individuals in the field. Junior Alex Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.) and sophomore Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) are tied for 50th at 153.
The Mocs are off No. 1 Tuesday morning at 9:03 a.m., paired with UNF and Georgia Southern. Bunn is up first followed by Weilguni (9:12), Johnston (9:21), Fox (9:30) and Jaeger (9:39).
