Landfall Tradition - Round 1

Chattanooga in 7th after 18 Holes at Landfall Tradition
10/28/2011 6:24:00 PM | Women's Golf
WILMINGTON, N.C. --- Sophomore Marion Duvernay (Publier, France) is tied for third at one-over par leading the Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team to seventh through 18 holes of the Landfall Tradition. The event includes 15 top 50 programs with two in the top five and three more in the top 20.
Duvernay's 73 ties her with Caroline Powers (Michigan St.) and Carlie Yadloczky (Auburn) who are ranked eighth and 18th nationally, respectively. The trio is two shots off the pace set by Purdue's Paula Reto (71) and one behind Victoria Trapani (Auburn) at level par 72.
UTC was in first as it made the turn at plus seven through nine holes playing the back nine first. The Mocs had a hiccup playing holes 2-4 at eight over to end up seventh at 309. But seventh is a not a bad round's work considering the field.
The Mocs are three shots behind No. 4 North Carolina, which is tied for third with Notre Dame, two behind South Carolina in fifth and one back of No. 16 Ohio State in sixth. Among the teams Chattanooga got the best of in round one are No. 13 N.C. State (2 strokes), No. 15 Duke (5), Florida State (6), Northwestern (11) and Virginia (12). No. 3 Auburn leads at 297 with Purdue in second at 304.
Senior Maria Juliana Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) and freshman Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) each carded six-over par 78s. The duo is tied for 32nd. Sophomore Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) rounded out the counting scores with an 80, while freshman Michaela Gasplmayr (Ebenfurth, Austria) had the drop score of 85.
The Mocs are first off No. 1 at 8:30 a.m., paired with N.C. State and Wake Forest. Gasplmayr will take the tee first followed by Britt (8:40), Loza (8:50), Kryger (9:00) and Duvernay (9:10). Live scoring can be accessed at the link above or on the women's golf schedule page on GoMocs.com.
