Postgame Quotes
Furman at Chattanooga
Chattanooga, Tenn. - Finley Stadium
Oct. 29, 2011

Chattanooga Head Coach Russ Huesman
On the last drive by Furman:

"We were so worried about their tight end that we weren't in our normal coverage, which is inside-outside. It would have been a better scenario, but their tight end is so good we played a different type of coverage and left C-Lou [Chris Louis-Harris] on an island out there and its hard to cover. The bottom line is you can't give them the ball on the 50 yard-line on the kickoff. There's no way, when they need a field goal they can't start a drive on the 50. It is tough, C-Lou is out on an island, he's got three-quarters of a field to cover a guy and that's what having a great tight end does. You have to watch where he is and you got to get him covered."

On the offenses struggles today:
"You know I'm not sure I'll have to talk to Sat [Offensive Coordinator Marcus Satterfield] tomorrow and figure it out. I know there were a lot of mistakes out there and we didn't block great. And you know it isn't that easy to play quarterback. And you think it is an easy thing just because you take a snap and run around back there. It is hard. There is a lot to it. And I got to give Terrell [Robinson] credit because he fought and took some shots out there. It was hard because there wasn't much running room. I don't know if we blocked real well. We didn't get open as wide receivers, so you can forget that. So I mean everybody's going to look and say well what happened here, what happened there. We just didn't play good as an offense. We didn't block anybody, obviously Terrell didn't have his best game. I don't know how much help he had. And we'll figure it out. I'm sure there were a lot of mistakes probably some place where the ball should have went and it didn't go. But that happens, it happens to a young guy and we just didn't play very well."

On the defense playing well the entire game until the game-winning touchdown for Furman:
"They got the post corner and that was probably it. I thought the whole time the defense played pretty good. And then as you get into it, you start to bring pressure and we were in man coverage. They throw a little out route and get a first down down there. Other than the post corner, I think our defense played really well. I think we gave up a post one time, and we should have been alert for that. It was right after the fake field goal and everybody in the world, when they get a turnover or something positive happens, they take a shot. And probably as coaches we didn't remind them, 'Hey watch the shot here.' But I think we held them there again. I am not sure if they kicked the field goal there or not. But the defense played good, they are always playing good we have got good players there."

On the run-pass ratio and the factor the weather played in the game:
"We probably had a couple of more passes thrown, but then they came through and sacked him, so if you can't drop back and get the ball out, then there's no say in let's just try and run and pop one. Did anybody see him have any kind of time back there the whole day? Zero time. And part of it is on him, part of it is on Terrell. He's got to get rid of the football, but a lot of it is on our coaches, too. They better put him in better positions then that. If you drop back to pass and there is five guys on you immediately and you say hit your hot. We have to give him protection and let him do the things he does best. And we didn't do that as an offensive staff today. And we willl re-address that one for sure. Now Terrell threw a couple balls that shouldn't have been thrown, so some is on him and some is on the coaches. And that's the way it always is, when you don't play well it's on everybody. It's on me, it's on the offensive staff, it's on the players it's on all of us as a group, as a whole group."

Junior Running Back J.J. Jackson
On points being hard to come by:

"We came out and played good on defense from the start. Big upset they played a great game. It was a good mixture of everything. They were in the right place at the right time and just couldn't seem to capitalize."

On the run game contemplating the pass or was there just no time to throw:
A little bit of both we didn't attempt to throw the ball much and when we did it wasn't a positive outcome. So we ran the plays coach called and I respect every play he called. We just have to do a better job and run those plays to perfection."

On this loss hurting the chances of playing in the post season:
"Season isn't over by no means we still have to big games left. We have to go to Samford and get that W and win against Wofford here and I'm very confident that our team will do that."

Freshman Quarterback Terrell Robinson
On what can be learned from struggling today:
"We didn't play too well offensively, but our defense did a good job. Furman came to play, they physically outplayed us on the offensive side. Anytime you turn the ball over three times, it is hard to win in this league. I take full blame for that you can' t put your team in that kind of position."

On not having a lot of time to throw:
"That wasn't really the case. It is just finding the reads. I don't think we played to the best of our ability. I take full blame for that."

On taking a lot of hits out there today:
"That's part of the game you're going to get hit around and knocked around. I just went out there and tried to keep going you have to be tough in this league.
"

Furman Head Coach Bruce Fowler
On the hard-earned win:
"It as kind of an unusual game. A lot of stuff happened and no one was able to grab any momentum. Both defenses played really well. At the end, the kickoff return was huge in that after the botched catch to have the awareness to pick it up and take it to mid field. We did a couple of passes and Sederrick [Cunningham] made a coupe catches. It was a game where we made some big plays on defense. Over and over again, our guys went out there and played well. We had a good plan to slow down Terrell Robinson. He has had some big weeks running the football. It was a good win."

On the defense scheme:
"We had to pack it in and stop the run, which is something that they have done very well the last three weeks. We kept our eyes on that quarterback because he can make a lot of plays. He is young and is going to get better and better. We were able to get some pressure with some stuff we were doing. There at the end we had the advantage."

On the offense punching it in when you needed the late score:
"They have a good defense and are a good team. Everybody acts like it is a bad game when everybody plays good defense. Both teams played good defense and our offense did a good job at times moving the football. We were patient, which is what we wanted to be. The wind was a little bit of a factor. It was a just a game where field position and ball control and making a play every now and then was going to make a difference."

Senior Quarterback Chris Forcier
On the win:
"It was a total team effort. The offense stepped up their game at the end, but our defense kept us in it. They kept battling and only gave up one touchdown. Special teams at the end allowed Hank to [McCloud] to bust through to build a little bit of momentum. I knew that we had it from there. All we needed was a field goal, but we pushed for a touchdown and got the two-point conversion to kind of seal it."

On the poise of the team after Chattanooga took the lead:
"We had about four minutes on the clock. It wasn't anything that we had to rush. We took our time. We knew that they were going to play off [coverage] on us because they did not want to give anything up deep. We just went out there and executed the plays."

On being efficient through the air:
"We tried to establish the run and it was a little tough to do that today. The passing game opened up a little bit and I had some throws that were right there for me that I could make. We did not try to do anything too spectacular. I just wanted to be efficient, execute and move the chains."

Junior Defensive Tackle Colton Keig
On holding Chattanooga to under 200 yards of offense:
"We wanted to prove that Wofford just wasn't a one-shot and we are done. We wanted to make sure that we came in and knew what we were doing. We had a plan for [Terrell] Robinson and everything. It really paid off. We played with great technique the whole game."

On the fumble at the end of the game:
"We were in the normal three-man front. We each had our responsibilities for the blitz and I was ripping up through. I came back with a spin inside and I don't know who hit him, but the ball was just laying there. It was sitting there for me and a little pretty present to secure the win."
