MACON, Ga --- The Chattanooga Mocs opened the Brickyard Collegiate Championship with a 296 to stand in sixth place after 18 holes on the Brickyard at Riverside. UTC trails Georgia in fifth by a mere shot.
Senior Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) had the low round of the day for the Mocs with a one-under par 71. He is tied for 12th heading into Saturday's second round.
Junior Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) had five birdies on his card en route to a 73 (+1). He birdied all four par fives and is currently tied for 25th. It was his second-highest score in his third year at the event.
Junior Alex Ratliff (Kingsport, Tenn.) made his first career start for the Mocs today with a three-over par 75. He's tied for 41st, two shots ahead of sophomore Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) who is tied for 58th with a 77 (+5). Sophomore Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) had the drop score with a 79.
The Mocs started on No. 10 today and made their turn at two-over par. They played the first five holes on the front side at six-over playing the final three holes at level par for the 296.
Georgia Tech leads after an eight-under par tally of 280. The Yellow Jackets lead Florida State by two at 282 (-6). North Florida is in third at 284 (-4).
Seth Reeves (Georgia Tech) leads individually at seven-under par 65. Reeves carded five birdies and an eagle with no bogeys. Brooks Koepka (Florida State) is a shot back at six under, 66, while Kyle Westmoreland (Air Force) holds down third at minus five (67).
Saturday's second round starts at 9:20 a.m., on No. 1 for the Mocs. Robb leads off followed by Weilguni (9:30), Ratliff (9:40), Fox (9:50) and Jaeger (10:00). Live scoring can be accessed on GoMocs.com on the men's golf schedule page.
