Chattanooga Basketball Postgame Quotes
Chattanooga (14-13, 10-5 SoCon) at Appalachian State (12-13, 8-7 SoCon)
Holmes Center - Boone, N.C.
Saturday - Feb. 12, 2011
Head Coach John Shulman
On the second half:
"We've had a tough weekend. It's a lot to ask of a team to play a game, travel three hours and play the next night. But that's an excuse. We hit the wall, we were dead, we got nothing going and couldn't get enough stops. I was never prouder of a team than I was last night. I was disappointed because we didn't have that same juice tonight."
On the last few days not making excuses (flu outbreak):
"In sports, it just doesn't matter. This is an L, there is no asterisk because of what we are trying to overcome. We need to get healthy, get our legs back. We laid it on the line last night and just didn't have it tonight. Shoot, we are in first place. We gotta take care of Chattanooga. We're at Georgia Tech and then have two big ones at home with Furman and Wofford before finishing at Samford."
App's inside game better tonight than earlier meeting:
"You can't double in the post with Sims out there. We played one-on-one in the post and they hurt us inside, especially in the first half."
Georgia Tech in February:
"We couldn't find a time. We wanted early January, but couldn't find the right date. I think it may work to our advantage with little ole Chattanooga mixed in that ACC schedule."
Senior DeAntre Jefferson
On 2 Games in 24 Hours:
"The last 48 hours have to be the wildest. The first day, we play, get to the hotel at about 1:30 a.m., I go to sleep and then I hear at least three fire alarms going off at 5. I was wondering maybe Appalachian State sent a manager over to the hotel, Nah, I'm joking. It was crazy, but that's the kind of adversity you have to battle through."
Opportunities in the 2nd Half, did you run out of gas?:
"We ended up getting 3-4 stops at the end, we just couldn't convert on the offensive end."
On taking care of the home court with Furman and Wofford coming to Chattanooga after the trip to Georgia Tech:
"If anything, we gotta protect our home court. It's important that we take care of business at home to prepare for the SoCon tournament. The first round buy is important, but you want to finish the season as champions."
Junior Ricky Taylor
On the last 24 hours & thoughts on tonight's game:
"You always have adversity to overcome. We're Division I ballplayers. There's no blaming fire alarms or flu bugs, we play ball every day. Even though we played back-to-back nights, there shouldn't be an excuse. Tonight we just didn't have the spark defensively. Once we start playing our defensive assignments and our rotations like we're supposed to, we'll get back on track."
Carter & Sims scoring 29 2nd half points:
"I have a lot of respect for Sims and Carter. Donald Sims is a phenomenal player...he has a great basketball IQ. Once he got going, his whole team got going. Carter was good all over the court. You've got to give both those guys a lot of credit."
