GREENVILLE, S.C.---The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga men's golf team got off a slow start shooting 303 (+15) on a blustery afternoon at the Furman Intercollegiate.  Chattanooga is tied for ninth with UNC Wilmington and Charleston Southern.

Kennesaw State leads the event at six under, 282.  The Owls are three shots clear of Virginia Tech in second and five ahead of third-place Clemson.

Redshirt freshman Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) paced the Mocs with a one-over par 73.  He is tied for 20th with seven others one shot ahead of teammate Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany).  Jaeger, a junior, is tied for 28th at two over, 74.

The trio of freshmen Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.), Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) and sophomore Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) each carded 78s (+6).  They are tied for 77th with 36 holes to play.

Individuals Jackson Lockhart (Brownsboro, Ala.) and Simon Forsslund (Stockholm, Sweden) also teed it up in the breezy afternoon session.  Lockhart, a freshman, shot 76 (+4), while Forsslund, a sophomore, carded an 83 (+11).

Purdue's William Sjaichudin has a two-shot lead in the medalist chase after opening with a seven-under par 65.  Harold Varner of East Carolina is second at 67 (-5), while Matt Nagy of Kennesaw State is third at minus four, 68.

Chattanooga starts off at 8 a.m., Saturday morning playing once again with Furman and Louisville.  The Mocs tee off No. 1 led by Fox, who will be followed by Robb (8:10), Bunn (8:20), Jaeger (8:30) and Weilguni (8:40).  Forsslund (9:20) and Lockhart (9:30) tee off No. 10.
