On June 19, 2010, the UTC Athletics Department revived the Mocs Anglers Bass Classic after a 20-year hiatus. The tournament was a great success with the winning team bringing in over 20 pounds and taking home over $1,000 in prize money. This year the tournament looks to be even better with more boat entries, more money, and more prizes!
As with all UTC Athletic Department fundraisers, all proceeds from the tournament will continue to help support student-athlete scholarships. Every year, tuition costs continually rise by an average of 5% which in turn means the UTC Athletics Department faces the challenge of funding these increases.
During the 2010-11 academic year, in-state tuition costs were over $5,500 per student while out-of-state tuition rose to over $16,000 per student. With 17 varsity athletic programs and over 250 UTC student-athletes, the UTC Athletics Department is faced with securing over $2 million dollars annually for academic assistance.
This 2011 Mocs Anglers Bass Classic will take place on June 18 and will again be an exciting day filled with fishing, prizes and mingling with current UTC Coaches and Administrators.
For those that have supported or fished in the tournament previously, thank you for your continued dedication to UTC Athletics. To those who will be participating for the first time; we appreciate your help in making this event a continued success. From all the UTC Student-Athletes, Coaches and Administration thank you very much for your interest in helping support Mocs Athletics! We look forward to seeing you on the lake.
