COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. --- Chattanooga Mocs departing senior Christine Wolf (Igls, Austria) put up a valiant effort, but missed the cut at the 66th United States Women's Open at the Broadmoor (East Course). Due to weather delays on Thursday, Wolf played all 36 holes today.
She started with a six-over par 77 in the opening round this morning then got right back out there in the afternoon. It was with momentum as Wolf was one-under in the last seven holes of the first 18.
But it was not to be. She hit just eight fairways and eight greens in the second round en route to an 84. That gave her a 36-hole total of 161, 19 over.
The round was not without its high points. After her drive went out of bounds on the 18th hole, the ninth hole of her first round, Wolf holed a "monster" putt that got a loud ovation from the grandstand according to UTC teammate, Emma de Groot (Coffs Harbour, New South Wales, Australia), who made the trip.
All-in-all, Wolf hit 16 fairways and 21 greens with 72 putts, 36 each round. She also had a familiar face on her bag as Mocs head coach Colette Murray served as caddy.
Wolf's tour of USGA events is not over after a good showing last week at the U.S. Women's Amateur Public Links. She travels to Rhode Island Country Club August 8-14 for the U.S. Women's Amateur in Barrington.
