Mocs Tied for Second, Weilguni Tied for Lead at Carpet Capital

| By:

ROCKY FACE, Ga. --- The Chattanooga Mocs golf team is in familiar position heading into the final round of the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate Classic.  Chattanooga is tied for second with Tennessee and Clemson at two-under par.  The trio is chasing Auburn, which is five shots clear at seven under.

UTC sophomore Benni Weilguni (Langelois, Austria) was the story of the day.  He fired a five-under par 67 which tied his career best and is the second lowest round shot by a Mocs golfer in the event (5th app.).

Weilguni is tied at 139 (-5) with Georgia's Bryden Macpherson, the 2011 British Amateur champion, who matched his 67.  That duo leads Mocs teammate Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) and Tennessee's Garrick Porteous, tied for third one shot back at four under (140).

Auburn took the lead with a strong nine-under par round of 279.  It jumped the Tigers from fifth to first, while Chattanooga and Clemson maintained position tied for second matching yesterday's one under 287.  The Vols catapulted right behind Auburn shooting 281 (-7) moving up from seventh.

Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) shot one over 73 in support of Weilguni and Jaeger.  He is tied for 35th at 149, two shots behind Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) at 147 (+3).  Bunn shot 75 (+3) today to round out counting scores, while Chris Robb's 76 served as the drop.  It moved him into a tie for 43rd with a 36-hole total of 151 (+7).

Robb leads the Mocs off of the first hole in the final round Sunday at 9 a.m.  He is followed by Fox (9:12), Bunn (9:24), Jaeger (9:36) and Weilguni (9:48).  UTC is paired with Auburn and Tennessee and live scoring will be available on GoMocs.com.
