Postgame Quotes
No. 14 Chattanooga at Eastern Kentucky
Richmond, Ky. - Roy Kidd Stadium
Sept. 17, 2011
Head Coach Russ Huesman
On the Chattanooga defense:
"Our goal was 2-1 after being 1-1. The guys wanted me to yell in the locker room our next goal is to be 3-1. The defense played great. Wes Dothard was a monster out there. We had two fluke plays, but other than that Eastern Kentucky's offense didn't have anything. Eastern Kentucky is good and T.J. Pryor is a good quarterback, and you have to give them credit. Eastern Kentucky played great defense and they were swarming the ball. They made it tough for us to move the football. They played really well and on special teams. They did a great job. It just so happens defensively we played good. I said all along I think we have a good defense. We can run."
On the Chattanooga offense:
"We scored enough to win a football game. We scored 23 points offensively and you hope that is enough to win football games. I know Satterfield is in there about to drown himself, but we did enough. We had 377 yards, and it probably wasn't the best game, but Eastern Kentucky's defense is pretty good. They held Kansas State to 10 points, and seven of them were at the very end of the game. We just played a good defensive football team."
On the play of Taharin Tyson and Marquis Green:
"Our true freshmen played good. Taharin Tyson got the ball down to the five, down to the one yard line, and then got it into the endzone. That is great and Marquis Green played so good. I don't even know how many yards he had. He had some lost yardage but he is playing good. We have a lot of good players here."
On the decision to go for it on fourth-and-goal on the one in the fourth quarter with a minute to go:
"We just didn't think they could go 99 yards on us. We didn't think they could do it and there is no way we were going to take a chance of getting it blocked. We didn't even know if we could get the ball into the end-zone, but even if we didn't, we thought we could hold them. It was under a minute to go. If they would have went 99 or 75 yards to kick a field goal to tie it our hats are off to them, but we were playing good defense so you take those gambles like that."
On next weekend's game against Appalachian State:
"We're playing a good one this week in Appalachian State. We better come to work Sunday and we better work every minute on every opportunity to even have a chance to win this thing. We're fixing to play the cream of the crop in the league. But I like our football team and I think we'll play hard, no question."
Joshua Williams
Junior, Defensive End
On breaking the Chattanooga career sacks record:
"I knew I was close to the record. My teammates kept me posted all week about the record."
On the Chattanooga defense:
"We have team speed. We're just too fast for our opponents and we're showing it right now. We have a lot of hustle and we've got a lot of young guys stepping up to the plate. It all goes back to everyone running to the ball and hustling. It was a suffocating defense."
Marquis Green
Freshman, Running Back
On first career touchdown run:
"Our fullback (Tyson) threw a great cut block. It couldn't get any better, so I just tried to find it and get around the edge. I had to dive in, but it's always more fun to dive in. That's what we work on in practice and just try to keep working. I knew it was going to happen one day, and I just stayed humble and kept working."
On the play of the freshmen team members:
"I was trying to keep the offense going on that drive. Chris Awuah got hurt, but Awuah kept me going, so I had to keep the offense going. I am young, but I have to step up and play. I have to keep going and get better. The freshmen don't have a choice. If we have guys get hurt, we have to keep it rolling. We get into the game, do what we can do and that's all we can do. Eastern Kentucky was a tough team and we had to keep fighting."
Taharin Tyson
Freshman, Fullback
On Tyson's first career touchdown run
"Eastern Kentucky has a great defense and I wanted to get into the end-zone. I wanted to contribute for my team and they told me I wasn't just a freshman anymore. I went out there and just tried to contribute. We needed that touchdown and it was a big-time conversion. Thomas Green threw a great block on it and the offensive line blocked great on it. I really didn't have to run with my eyes open. I could have ran with my eyes closed the field was so wide open. Eastern Kentucky had a great defense and I will keep saying it. They really came out and showed themselves. They fought hard the whole game, but we finally got a push on that play and it was successful."
