CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball and wrestling
teams have a new way to show the tradition of their programs at Maclellan Gym. Two
new banners now hang on a newly constructed wall that went up in front of the concourse.
"The display on the wall inside Maclellan is a positive step
in fulfilling the visions that Heath [Eslinger] and I have for the home of
Chattanooga volleyball and wrestling," said head volleyball coach Travis Filar.
"It allows the visitors to our home gym to see the rich tradition and success
of the two programs."
Looking at the wall from the center court, a banner displaying
the four volleyball tournament and two regular season titles is on the left.
The primary mark of Chattanooga Athletics, the Power-C, is in the middle, while
the banner on the right depicts the 27 SoCon wrestling championships.
"Obviously, this is the gym that we compete in and it is important
to have a sense of pride in looking back at our past," said head wrestling
coach Heath Eslinger. "This is a great way to honor and recognize those who
have wrestled and our history."
The project finished on Thursday afternoon just in time for
the Mocs volleyball team to show off the renovation at the Country Inns &
Suites Invitational this weekend. Chattanooga plays East Tennessee State on
Friday at 6 p.m. with the tournament kicking off earlier in the day at 11 a.m.
The Mocs round out the event on Saturday with two matches against Tennessee
Tech at 10 a.m. and UNC Asheville at 4 p.m.
