PACIFIC PALISADES, Calif. --- The Chattanooga Mocs men's
golf team shot a consistent six-over par 290 to finish the NCAA Championship at
32-over 884. UTC finished 18th in the 30-team field.
Stephan Jaeger (Munich, Germany) and Steven Fox
(Hendersonville, Tenn.) tied for the low round of the day for the Mocs with a
one-under par 70. The duo did it different fashion. Jaeger's included two
birdies and 15 pars, while Fox posted five birdies.
The 70's are a new low for NCAA Championship play. The previous
best was even-par 71's by Ben Rickett and Fredrick Qvicker in 2009, along with
Liam Johnston (Dumfries, Scotland) in round one this year. Fox's five birdies today
also tied a school record in the finals. It ties Rickett and Johnston as well.
Jaeger led the Mocs with a six-over par 219. He bounced
back from an opening 76 with rounds of 73 and 70. Fox ended up two shots behind
him at 221 (76-75-70).
Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire, Scotland) shot 223 in his
first finals action with cards of 76, 72 and 75. Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.)
ended at 226 (76-75-75), while Johnston wound up with a 228 (71-80-77).
Chattanooga finished three shots behind No. 23
Georgia at 881. It beat No. 9 Stanford and No. 20 UCF by one and No. 16 Virginia
and No. 25 Iowa by four.
This closes out a championship year for the Mocs. UTC won the Southern
Conference Championship for the fifth time and captured its first NCAA Regional
title in Bowling Green, Ky. Jaeger tied a school record with three wins
including the NCAA Bowling Green Regional, SoCon Championship and Golfweek Conference
Challenge. He became the first student-athlete ever to win three SoCon Golfer of
the Year awards.
