SIMPSONVILLE, Ky. --- Junior Marion Duvernay (Publier,
France) finished tied for fourth leading the Chattanooga Mocs to third place at
the Wild Eggs Cardinal Cup Tuesday. Duvernay's final round 72 paced UTC's 300
effort at Cardinal Club Golf Course.
Duvernay's three-over par total of 219 is a new career
best as is her tie for fourth finish. She shot rounds of 72, 75 and 72 again
today.
The Mocs fell five shots shy of host Louisville (896) which
won by one shot over Missouri (897). The ladies from Chattanooga made quite a surge
over the final few holes.
It was a shotgun start to the day and UTC was 15-over par
through around 15 holes. Each team member recorded birdies in their final three
holes to close the day at 12-over par 300.
Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) led the charge. She began
her day on five and was one-under early after a birdie on six. She then bogeyed
four of the next six holes to drop to three over.
After seven straight pars, Britt birdied two of the last
three holes to get back to plus one ending her day at 73. She finished tied for
14th at eight over (224).
While Britt played her final 10 holes at minus two,
Duvernay was following her lead. A bogey on 16 put her at two over through 13
holes. She birdied three of her next four holes ending up at even par for the
day and three over for the tourney.
Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) tied for 21st
shooting 227. She carded a 78 over the final 18 but she too battled to the end.
A bogey on 18 moved her to seven over, but McLennan played her final three
holes one under to end up with her 78.
Mette Kryger (Nivaa, Denmark) and Isabella Loza
(Bucaramanga, Colombia) rounded out the team scoring at 232 and 239,
respectively. Kryger played her final five holes at one under, while Loza
joined her comrades with a birdie in her final holes as well.
Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) had a good debut for
the Mocs playing as an individual. She tied for 33rd at 230, three strokes
behind McLennan. Her five birdies in the first round yesterday was the team's
top number for the tournament.
Louisville's Emily Haas ran away with medalist honors.
She shot seven-under par 209 firing rounds of 69, 69 and 71. Fanny Cnops from
UNCG was second at 214 (-2), while Cincinnati's Mackenzie Moir was third at
plus two (218), one shot ahed of Duvernay and three others in fourth.
It's a quick turnaround for the Mocs. The ladies return
to the course this weekend for the Mason Rudolph Women's Championship Friday
through Sunday. The tourney is being played at the Vanderbilt Legends Club in
Franklin, Tenn.
