ROCKY FACE, Ga. --- The Scottish duo of Liam Johnston (Dumfries) and Chris Robb (Aberdeenshire) each carded two-under par 70's as the Chattanooga Mocs shot 286 as a team Saturday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate. The two-under par team round moved UTC into seventh just ahead of Auburn and UNF with a two-day total of 578.
Johnston is tied for eight individually with his second straight 70. His 140, four-under par, is a career-best through 36 holes. Robb improved six shots over his initial score of 76. He is tied for 30th at two over (146).
Steven Fox (Hendersonville, Tenn.) is one shot ahead of Robb tied for 26th at plus one (145). He shot 74 today, two shots behind Alex Ratliff's (Kingsport, Tenn.) level-par effort of 72. He is tied for 37th with a three-over par score of 147. Davis Bunn (Knoxville, Tenn.) rounds out the Mocs scoring at nine-over par 153.
"We finished today," said head coach Mark Guhne. "A lot of woulda, shoulda, couldas come to mind, but the important thing is we improved. We played well from start to finish.”
Texas stole the show shooting 22-under par 266 as a team. That moved the Longhorns from 11th to first at minus 17. Georgia is second at 562 after today's 284. LSU, Alabama and Clemson are tied for third at three-under par (573).
Brandon Stone paced Texas with a nine-under par 63. He's in first at 12 under, one shot ahead of first-round leader T.J. Mitchell (Georgia). Mitchell shot 68 (-4) and is three shots clear of third-place Jordan Spieth (Texas) at 136 (-8).
For the third straight day, the Mocs are the first team off of No. 1 in the morning. Bunn is up first at 8 a.m., with Ratliff (8:09), Robb (8:18), Fox (8:27) and Johnston (8:36) to follow. Chattanooga is paired with Auburn and UNF.
