AUBURN, Ala. --- The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team shot 309 in the first round of the NCAA East Regional today at Auburn University Club. Chattanooga is in 19th one shot clear of Penn State, ranked 47th in the country, and three ahead of UCF.

Freshman Emily McLennan (Queensland, Australia) paced a balanced UTC effort. McLennan shot four-over par 76 on the hot, sunny afternoon in south Alabama. She ended up one stroke ahead of sophomore Agathe Sauzon (Valence, France) and junior Jordan Britt (Chattanooga, Tenn.) with 77's. Freshman Isabella Loza (Bucaramanga, Colombia) rounded out the counting scores with a 79.

The Mocs are five shots behind FIU in 18th at 304 and eight shy of Kentucky, East Carolina and Texas State all tied for 15th.

Defending National Champion Alabama leads after an 11-under 277 effort. The second-ranked Crimson Tide holds a six-stroke leads over the pair of No. 5 Arkansas and No. 20 Tulane tied in second at 283. No. 8 UCLA is in fourth at level par (288).

There is a trio of golfers leading the tournament at five-under par. Emma Levy (Arkansas), Erica Popson (Tennessee) and Emma Talley (Alabama) all fired 67 and lead another trio by one. Jackie Chang (North Carolina), Stephanie Meadow (Alabama) and Emily Penttila (Tulane) are tied for fourth at minus four (68).

Friday's second round begins at 8:25 a.m., for the Mocs on the 10th hole. Porsche Campbell (Vancouver, Canada) leads off followed by Loza (8:36), Britt (8:47), Sauzon (8:58) and McLennan (9:09).
