Head Coach Will Wade
Thoughts on the game
“We just didn't give ourselves a chance. Davidson out-toughed us in the paint and all over the court, and we were not ourselves tonight. We were not the team that got to 8-0, and we strayed a little bit from our formula. Everybody in the league gets beat, but now we have to be ready to respond and go again Saturday afternoon.”
On what went wrong against Davidson
“We are still a good team. We got a little sidetracked tonight, but we have to get back to what made us a good team and be ready to play Saturday night against Furman. We are disappointed, but everyone in the league is going to lose. It is unrealistic to think we're going undefeated. Now we've lost and we have to see how we're going to respond. I believe in our guys, they have the right stuff and I think they are going to respond Saturday night. We'll see how it goes.”
What the difference was tonight compared to other nights
“We just didn't run our offense. We started standing and we were unsure of ourselves. Defensively we didn't stay inside on some switches like we were supposed to do. We were just out of whack. We've been really good in communicating, following the game plan and doing what we're supposed to do, but we were a little off the page. It's a little out of character for us and that has not been the rule. We have to pick up the pieces and turn the page.”
On reassurance given to Z Mason after coming out of the game
“It was to say that I still believe in him, still love him and think the world of him. It was a way of saying that we're going to see better days. Tonight wasn't our night, but we're going to recover. He is a great player and we're going to get this thing right. Sometimes you have to put a little sugar out there – even on nights when you don't feel like it or don't want to. Now we have to recover and get things going Saturday.”
Thoughts going into Saturday
“This game should get our attention and we should be playing with our hair on fire Saturday. I believe in our guys. I believe we've responded the right way all season. We just have to take a deep breath and get ready to go.”
Casey Jones, sophomore, guard
Thoughts on the game
“Hats off to Davidson. They came out with crazy effort. They blasted us on the glass. We wanted to come out here and make a statement, and they wanted to do the same thing, but they got the best of us tonight.”
Thoughts on Davidson
“They did a good job of picking us up on anything we wanted to do. We had to fight for everything. We had maybe three assists tonight, we didn't move the ball well, and they did a good job of making us into a team that we're not.”
On his rebounding effort
“That is one of my best contributions to the team. Playing defense and getting to the rack is what I do best, and I wanted to do that and keep being me.”
On the team's attitude
“We just want to come out and do better. We want to play harder. We knew there was a slim chance of us going undefeated in the league, but we wanted to come out here and play like we were going to be undefeated. We wanted to at least play a game close enough to make people see that Chattanooga has a great team.”
