CHATTANOOGA FOOTBALL QUOTES
Nov. 1, 2014 | Mocs vs. Western Carolina
Head Coach Russ Huesman
Thoughts on the game
“In six years here, this was our most impressive showing, offensively and defensively. That's a good Western Carolina team, and to play that well against a quality team with some really good players is huge. I don't remember a game that even came close to this one in quality.”
Thoughts on playing a well-rounded game
“It was total domination. We converted third downs when they didn't, we didn't take sacks and we didn't make a turnover. There are a ton of positives to take from this game, and we needed a good defensive game to bounce back from last week against Mercer. Our guys were excited to play after being embarrassed last week.”
On challenging players to step up
“I challenged anybody who wasn't playing the way we thought they should be. We are on the home stretch of the season and there isn't a lot of time left in it. You have to commit yourself, and we have to commit for three weeks. Then we're in the playoffs, and we have to take it week-by-week. Keon Williams and the defense really stood out in this one and stepped it up.”
On the offense's game
“This offense has been great all season. We've been running the ball well and scoring points. I think if you take Tennessee out, we've played really well on offense for the last six games, and the same with the defense minus Mercer.”
On closing out the home season against Wofford
“The season goes fast, doesn't it? We are playing to get to 6-0. We have to continue to play well and not take any opponent for granted.”
Chris Mayes, offensive lineman, senior
Thoughts on the game
“This is the most complete game we've played in a long time. The offense was firing on all cylinders. We stalled a little on the first drive, but we came back, settled down and played fundamentally well. And the defense was great today.”
On the growth of the offensive line
“I think our growth has been huge. We have gelled together as a unit and we've played well. We've gotten familiar with each other's play and gotten better.”
On the offensive line's performance
“We take a lot of pride in our work. When the other guys are successful around us and they have a great day, we know we've had a great day. That's all we care about.”
Muhasibi Wakeel, linebacker, senior
On the defense's week of preparation
“This week's practice was intense, so we came out focused and had to improve off of last week.”
On the importance of the game
“The stakes were high coming into this game. We were both undefeated, and playoff and championship implications were big. We knew their quarterback was very mobile, so we had to stick to what we do and keep at it.”
Thoughts on Wofford
“Wofford is a great team. We have to stay intense and come out like we did today. And it's important because it is our last home game, and that is big for us seniors.”
Jacob Huesman, quarterback, junior
Thoughts on the game
“We were firing on all cylinders in all phases of the game today. Special teams were good and the defense was phenomenal. After last week, I knew they were going to respond and play their rear-ends off. And we played well on offense. The offensive line did a great job, the running back found holes and it was a very complete game.”
On Keon Williams' play
“Keon Williams had a great game today. We challenged him to step up and play like the Keon we know, and he did. He ran for some hard yards, broke tackles and had a couple of really nice, long runs. He was running angrily.”
