Chattanooga Football Postgame Quotes
No. 9 Chattanooga at Furman
Paladin Stadium – Greenville, S.C.
Saturday – Nov. 22, 2014
Head Coach Russ Huesman
Thoughts on the game
“We played well. I don't know if we played too great on defense. They had some things we hadn't seen, and it got us a little bit, but I think we played well in all three phases for the most part. We only had one negative play on the offensive side of the ball. I thought those guys played well.
"Jeff and the offensive guys called a great game. We had them on their heels quite a bit, but when you have good players that's not hard to do. Jacob, Keon, Xavier and Alfonso Stewart all played really well. Shafaat caught two today – we have players and playmakers. It is easy to call a game with them and not having to worry about whose hands the ball is in.”
Thoughts on the Chattanooga offense
“We had a lot of productivity from a lot of people. It was great to get Derrick Craine back out there. He ran the ball well and I think he feels good. He will be healthy for the playoffs. Bagley always does something good for us during the course of a game. Our wideouts were great. Alfonso, Tommy and Xavier were all great today. They help put those 499 yards on the board.”
On Keon Williams' record-setting day
“I am happy for Keon. That's pretty neat for him to break that record, and he has been really good for us. I was really happy for him. I knew he was close to breaking it, so I went and told Jeff I wanted the ball in his hands so he could have that chance.”
Thoughts on the postseason
“We want a seed. I think we deserve one, but I will say that if we don't get a seed, we're going to come ready to play. Hopefully we get a home game. If we don't, we will go on the road and we're going to be ready to play that one.
"Our goal is to win a national championship, and I don't care how we do it. I don't care if it's with a seed, no seed, home, no home… we are planning on winning a national championship. You have to be prepared for anything. We have a chip on our shoulders from not making it to the playoffs last year, but we are going to come to play. We have good players.”
Keon Williams, running back, senior
On his record-breaking night
“It is a great feeling to be able to do this again and be in this situation again. Going into tomorrow we can be denied, so it is a great feeling to know we have a shot in the playoffs.”
On what it means to hold the record
“It has been a rough ride. That's what just makes breaking this record even better. Going through adversity and overcoming a lot of things to get to this point makes me enjoy this record even more.”
Thoughts on tomorrow's selection show
“Being able to come in tomorrow and see our name on that board is going to be great. Walking out of that room last year without making it was devastating. It's a great feeling knowing we've done so much to put ourselves in this kind of position.”
Director of Athletics David Blackburn
“Congratulations to the team, the staff, the city of Chattanooga and our school. Our fate will go before a committee. I've worked hard this week to communicate our position to the committee and I certainly feel like we deserve a seed. But the committee begins deliberating tonight.
"We won our league outright, undefeated in the league and we took care of business when we had to. We competed extremely well and barely lost to a great Jacksonville State team, and lost to two great FBS teams. We're hopeful the committee will take all of our successes into account and we'll get a seed. However, we hope we get a home playoff game in the worst case scenario if we don't get a seed and bye. Most of all, we are thankful for their efforts and happy about where we are today.”
