Postgame Quotes vs. Coastal Carolina

| By:

Head Coach Will Wade
Thoughts on the second half
“I think we got stops, which really helped us.  Our second half defense was much improved.  We got stops and were able to get out in transition.  We made plays happen.  Ronrico was tremendous.  He shot the ball well and was an offensive playmaker for us.  He deserves everything he gets.  He was a little down on his shot, so he and Wes practiced last night until 11:30 working on his shot.  Those are the little things it takes to win.  Rico does them and that's what it takes to win it.  It doesn't surprise.  When you're in a slump, you work to fix it and that's what 30 or 40 minutes can do for you.  Greg Pryor was in there shooting with him.  You get out what you put in.  Those guys put in and invest a lot.  I had a feeling Rico wasn't going to let us lose when he starting going in the second half.”

Thoughts on Casey Jones
“He was great.  That's what we need from him every night.  He was great.  He got rebounds, got in there and was driving the ball.  He was kicking it out, keeping balls alive and was just tremendous.  That's just what we need from him.  We're playing small ball more so we played him at the four, which allows him to use his quickness advantage a little bit more.  He was really good for us and we needed every bit of it.”

On if winning this game builds momentum
“I don't look at it as building momentum up.  I look at every game as separate entities.  This is probably the best game we've played to date.  Now we have to go on the road.  We go out Saturday, and we have to take the same intensity and same level of play we had today and take it on the road.  We have to do it in somebody else's gym now.  It is something to build off of, but now we have to do it on the road.  You're not going to be a very good team if you only win your home games.”

On playing on a holiday
“I was a little worried about drawing intensity on a holiday, but one of our values is enthusiasm.  We talk to our guys about it all the time.  I think we were the most enthusiastic team.  Our bench was into it, the guys were into it from the start, and you have to draw your own enthusiasm.  You have to create your own energy.  You can't make excuses.  Excuses get you beat.  We're only guaranteed to play 32 times this year and that is it.  Thirty-one games plus one in the conference tournament.  If you can't be fired up for that, you're not in the right program.”

Thoughts on Coastal Carolina
“That was an upper-level matchup.  That's the best mid-major team we've played.  It's probably the best we'll play in the entire non-conference.  I mean, their coach has won 750 games.  He is good.  Their guards are tremendous.  They won the league last year and played Virginia really tightly as a 16 seed for a half.  They went out to UCLA this year and gave them a dogfight.  It was a six-point game with under 10 minutes left.  That's a good team you want to face in the non-conference.”

, guard, junior

On becoming a more physical player
“I just have to relive some of the passive in my game.  I was out there tip-toeing and stuff like that.  I have to become more blue-collar and get more aggressive.”

On winning a physical game
“I think it's the best feeling because a game like this is very physical.  Coming away with a victory is just so rewarding.  There are so many downs to a physical game, and to get a win in a game like that is very rewarding.”

Ronrico White
, guard, senior

On the halftime conversation and controlling the second half
“There really wasn't a conversation.  I just got some good looks in the second half.  My first was a mid-range against their defense because that's the way they played me.  I just wanted to be aggressive for my team.  I just took what the defense gave me.”

On getting the win against a good team
“It's very satisfying.  We knew they were a very good team.  We watched them yesterday and watched them on film.  We knew they had really good guards.  We knew they could score, and we as a back court took that personally.  We wanted to come out and defend them, and hold them to the least amount of points as possible.”

On correcting his shot
“Anytime you can get into the gym and see the ball going in is a good thing.  It is very satisfying to get into a game and see the same thing.  I have to thank Coach Wes.  All of the coaches see things with everybody's shots, and just some small adjustments really help.  He corrected that last night and it helped out there today.”
