CHATTANOOGA FOOTBALL QUOTES
Sept. 13, 2014 | #14 Mocs at Austin Peay
Head Coach Russ Huesman
How important was it to jump out to the quick lead
“We started off pretty fast with a couple of touchdowns. Obviously the one long touchdown drive to start the game was huge. Then we scored right away after the turnover. I think it was a confidence boost for our offense.”
On Tommy Hudson's effort
“I think the first throw-and-catch from Jacob to Tommy was one of the most important plays of the game. Tommy is such a good player for us…all of the things he does for this program, it's great to see him have this kind of success.”
Further thoughts
“We stopped them defensively. Nick Pollard was exceptional kicking the ball (punting and kickoffs) today. We were better offensively. We need to continue to progress offensively, but we had some guys make some plays. I really liked the way the offensive line came off the ball when we ran power on the 4th and 1."
Senior Defensive End Davis Tull
As a defensive player, how cool was it to see the offense have such a good day
“It was exciting. Defensively, we came out a little flat, but we picked it up as the game went on, and the offense scored 42 points which is a good night. Hopefully we can build on this win during the bye week.”
Was the defense ready to get back out there in the second half shutting out the opponent
“We made some good adjustments. Like I said, we were a little flat in the beginning, but we got excited as the game went on, and we got a little better.”
Talk about your sack and forced fumble
“I just beat the guy around the edge. We had good coverage because he pumped it once. I always try to go for the ball.”
Junior Quarterback Jacob Huesman
How important was it to get going early
“We picked up a lot of momentum early with a couple of quick scores. It's important to show the defense that we are playing for them and give them reassurance they don't have to be perfect.”
On Tommy Hudson's career day
“He had the first five or six catches of the game. The guy's a ballplayer. He's a threat every time he touches the ball. I can't say enough about him.”
How important was this game heading into the bye week
“It's huge. We needed a win. We're starting conference play two weeks from now. It's big to have the bye week with us opening with Samford.”
