NOTES
CHATTANOOGA, Tenn.---The Chattanooga Mocs finished 10th against a stout field at the prestigious Carpet Capital Collegiate. The fact that more was possible will drive coach Mark Guhne during practice this week.
“Am I disappointed in the finish,” questioned Guhne. “Yeah, definitely. We were four shots out of the lead and were never a factor today. That was tough to watch. We need to post five solid scores every round, so our drop score average (80.0) is a concern.”
Senior Liam Johnston and redshirt freshman Andrew Weathers shined for Guhne's Mocs. Johnston tied for 10th at 4 under, while Weathers finished tied for 21st at minus one.
“I'm really proud of Liam and Andy,” Guhne added. “Liam fought back from a tough start to finish where he has the ability to every time out. Andy had a dream start and was one bad hole from a top 15 as well.”
Sophomore Ewan Scott had a tournament-high 41 pars over his 54 holes. He ended up tied for 41st at 3 over (219) after a 2-over 74 today. Sophomore Wes Gosselin completed the event in 66th (229), while sophomore Zac Stolz finished 68th (231).
It was a special day for South Carolina. The Gamecocks were a shot ahead of the Mocs to begin the day and fired a 12-under par 276 to claim the team title by one over Georgia Tech (849). Yellow Jackets senior Ollie Schniederjans won medalist honors for the second year in a row at 12 under, two clear of Robby Shelton (Alabama) in second at minus 10.
Chattanooga returns to the tee Friday, September 12, at the Tar Heel Intercollegiate. The three-day, 54-hole event is played at the University of North Carolina's Finley Golf Course. Links to live scoring will be available on GoMocs.com.
