Coots Leads Mocs at ITA Regional

Senior advances with a win in the main draw.
The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga senior Kelsey Coots won a main draw singles match to lead the Mocs at the ITA Ohio Valley Regional today. UTC is competing in the prestigious event at Purdue in West Lafayette, Ind.
Coots scored a (7-6 (0), 6-4) win over Eastern Kentucky's Laura Argente in the opening round. She is back in action tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. (E.D.T.) against Kentucky's fifth seeded Nadio Ravita.
The day started with doubles action and an epic battle with Xavier. Senior Kayla Jones and sophomore Samantha Caswell fought hard in an 8-7 loss, dropping the tiebreaker 7-5. Then they went up against the No. 5 seeded Tennessee duo of Mercedes Hammond and Evangeline Repic in consolation action. They lost another tough one 8-6.
Caswell lost both of her singles matches while Jones won in consolation action. Jones may play another consolation match tomorrow. The consos are outdoors and will not be played with the temps are not above 50 degrees at start time.
