Women’s Golf Ends Fall on High Note with Runner-up Finish

The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team topped 12 schools in Golfstat's top 100 to finish runner-ups at the Palmetto Intercollegiate.

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C.---Chattanooga Mocs women's golf coach Colette Murray went into the Palmetto Intercollegiate with a simple goal. She wanted a top 3 result against the strong field. Mission accomplished.
"Obviously we're really happy," Murray said. "We wanted a top 3 and we got it. If we had a better first day, we could've won it.
"I'm really happy with our play overall this fall."
The runner-up is the fourth top 3 in five events for the program. The ladies fired 882 over the 54 holes to finish seven shots behind Furman. The Mocs topped Campbell in third by two, Augusta by four, Illinois five and No. 23 Louisville by seven.
Monica San Juan led the final round charge as the team shot 292. Her 3-under 69 was nearly matched by Emily McLennan's 70. Cris Perez shot 76, while Megan Woods and Isabella Loza each carded 77.
"Finishing off the fall like that is very encouraging (for Monica)," Murray added. "She showed what she's capable of; really they all did during the fall. We'll take some time off and then get right to work for the spring."
McLennan's 1-over 217 tied for third overall. Four strokes behind medalist Chayanid Prapassarangkul of Kansas at -3. It's McLennan's third top 10 and second top 5 of the fall.
San Juan missed the top 10 by one shot. She tied for 11th at 219 (+3). Woods and Perez notched top 25s tying for 23rd at 223 (+7).
The Mocs are off until February. They return to the tee Feb. 22-23 at the USA Women's Invitational in Mobile, Ala.
