The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team beat Wofford 3-1 Saturday in Maclellan Gym. UTC marked its 20th win paired with a 9-2 Southern Conference record.
"This group has learned how to win," head coach
Travis Filar stated. "We're calling on different people and winning in different ways. It's nice that we are good enough in moments that we can find ways to win even when we're not playing our best."
The first set was full of big runs on both sides. The Mocs won five points in a row to take the lead 15-8. The Terriers went on an eight-point run to bring the score to 21-21. After saving two match points, Chattanooga won the first 28-26. UTC dropped a close second frame 26-24.
"In the first two sets, we played very chaotic," Filar said. "Thankfully, we had great leadership in that locker room and said 'Hey let's get back to our game and steady ourselves. Let's play confidently and realize that we're in our gym.' And we did that in the third and fourth sets."
After the intermission, Chattanooga convincingly won the next two sets, 25-19 and 25-18.
Two Mocs recorded double-doubles. Senior
Briana Reid (Houston, Texas) tallied 12 kills and 17 digs, while sophomore
Lauren Greenspoon (Houston, Texas) racked up 51 assists and 10 digs.
Junior
Kristy Wieser (Lincoln, Neb.) led the squad in hitting percentage for the second match in a row with a .303 clip. Senior
