Derrick Craine is a second team Academic All-America® choice, according an announcement made by the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) today.
Craine is just the second football student-athlete to earn the prestigious honor, which includes members from all of NCAA Division I (FBS & FCS).
Davis Tull was also selected in 2013 and 2014. Craine is the 12
th student-athlete overall to earn Academic All-America® honors at UTC.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative grade-point-average of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00 and have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution.
Craine has a 3.61 g.p.a. as a Health & Human Performance major and is an Academic All-Southern Conference honoree. He had made the Dean's List each semester of his career and is a two-time member of the SoCon Honor Roll.
On the field, Craine is a first team All-SoCon pick at running back and is second in the league in rushing at 96.3 yards per game. His 13 rushing touchdowns lead the SoCon and he is threatening the school's single-season rushing record with 1,156 yards in 2015.
This is the fifth year in a row UTC has had at least one CoSIDA Academic All-America® team member. Craine joins Tull, volleyball's Christina Teter (2012) and Track & Field's Chris Berry (2012) and David Moore (2011) as five of the 12 Academic All-America® honorees in school history.
