AUGUSTA, Ga.---The course was stingy today as the Chattanooga Mocs shot 302 to open the 3M Jaguar Intercollegiate at Forest Hills Golf Club. Chattanooga rolled in just four birdies. That ties for the second fewest this season.
“It was difficult day weather-wise, but I think the course played tough,” coach Colette Murray stated. “The holes were in about as tough of spots as they'll be all weekend. I think you'll see a lot more birdies the next two days.”
Emily McLennan had three of the four birdies on the counting cards en route to shooting 2-over par 73. She was equal opportunity earning her birds each on a par three, four and five including the 18th hole to move into the top 10. She is tied for seventh, three strokes out of the lead held by Columbia's Nancy Xu and Kennesaw State's Ines Lescudier.
“As always, it was a solid round,” Murray added. “She told me she left a lot out there on the greens. That shows we are doing the right things, and the putts just need to fall.”
Two other Mocs are in the top 20 alongside McLennan. Agathe Sauzon is tied for 13th at +4 (75), while Sarah Dolmovich is tied in 16th after a 76 (+5). Cris Perez added a 78 (+7) to the team. Megan Woods had the drop score with an 82.
KSU has the early lead with today's 296. Host GRU Augusta is tied in second at 298 with No. 21 Furman and Coastal Carolina with the Mocs lurking another four shot back.
UPDATED (3-14): Round two is changed to an 11 a.m., shotgun start due to rain in the area. The Mocs are paired with Coastal Carolina and Troy on holes 5-8. Live scoring and pairings are linked above.
