JOHNSON CITY, TENN. -- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team suffered a 3-0 (25-18, 25-15, 25-20) defeat on Wednesday evening at ETSU, snapping its winning streak of four matches.
The loss dropped the Mocs to 11-8 overall and 4-2 in the Southern Conference. With the win, the Buccaneers improved to 12-6 overall and also now carry a 4-2 mark in the conference.
UTC fell behind 5-4 in the first set and relinquished the lead for the remainder of the game, ultimately dropping a 25-18 decision. In the second set, the Mocs took a 3-1 lead to open up play before ETSU took the next three points for a 4-3 lead. Trading the next two points gave the Bucs a 5-4 advantage, as was in the first set, the lead was ETSU's for the remainder, capturing a 25-15 victory. The third set featured both teams trading points before the Buccaneers took a 17-16 lead and held on from that point for a 25-20 win, capturing the match 3-0.
Offensively, the Mocs were led by
Miranda Elpers (Louisville, Ky.) as she finished with a team-high ten kills on a .171 hitting percentage.
Kristy Wieser (Lincoln, Neb.) added six kills for the offense.
Lauren Greenspoon (Houston, Texas) and
Madison Bergren (Muncie, Ind.) led the team with 15 and 13 assists, respectively. UTC was out-hit .259-.119 and out-blocked 7.0-4.0 in the loss.
On the defensive side,
Rachel Petkosh (Merritt Island, Fla.) led the Mocs with 16 digs while Greenspoon chipped in with eight. Wieser picked up 2.0 total blocks at the net.
