CHATTANOOGA -- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team earned a 3-0 (26-24, 26-24, 26-24) sweep over the UNCG Spartans in the regular season finale in Macllelan Gym on senior night Saturday evening.
With the win, UTC finished the regular season 17-12 and 10-6 in the Southern Conference, good enough for sole possession of third place. UNCG fell to a similar 17-12 mark overall but had a one game edge for second over the Mocs at 11-5 in the SoCon.
Chattanooga out-hit UNCG .233-.214 in the three-set victory, notching the second-straight match hitting north of .200. The Mocs were out-numbered in all other statistical categories including digs (45-37), blocks (7.0-5.0) and kills (46-39).
Senior
Kristy Wieser led the way on offense during senior night as she totaled 12 kills on a .400 attacking percentage.
Miranda Elpers followed behind with eight kills and
Eden Murray with six.
Allie Davenport, the second senior being honored tonight aside Wieser, finished the match with five kills and a team-high 11 digs.
The junior setting duo of
Madison Bergren and
Lauren Greenspoon directed the offense combining for 35 of the team's 37 assists as Bergren finished with 20 and Greenspoon 15.
Lindsey Farrell completed her second career start in as many nights with ten digs and a service ace.
The Mocs had eight aces from the service line, the most in nearly a month.
Dani Szczepanski set a career-high with four aces as Davenport, Elpers, Bergren and Farrell all picked up a single ace.
Chattanooga has wrapped up the 2016 regular season and has their eyes set on the Southern Conference Tournament held in Birmingham, Ala., on Nov. 19-21.
