BIRMINGHAM, Ala. --- The No. 3 seeded Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team punched their ticket to the Southern Conference Championship match for the second-straight season with an electrifying 3-2 (23-25, 25-19, 22-25, 25-19, 17-15) win over No. 2 UNCG in the Pete Hanna Center on Sunday.
UTC will take on No. 4 seed and tournament-host Samford Monday at 7:00 p.m. ET. The winner receives the Southern Conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
Chattanooga improved to 19-12 on the season while UNC-Greensboro finished the season with an 18-13 mark.
"Very emotional. I'm just so proud of this group. We have been committed to the process all season long of getting better," said coach
Travis Filar.
"I couldn't be more proud and excited for this group of kids who fought against a great UNCG team."
The Mocs out-hit the Spartans .206-.162 for the match as four different Mocs reached double-digits in kills.
Miranda Elpers had a match-high and new career-high with 19 kills (.276) and nearly notched a 20-20 kill-dig match as she registered 22 digs to go along with her kills.
Kristy Wieser, a senior, did not want her career to end as she posted 17 kills for the match, seven of them coming in the fifth set on a .778%, including the match winner.
Allie Davenport, a fellow senior, added veteran leadership as she collected her second-straight double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs.
Eden Murray finished with a career-high 11 kills on an extremely efficient .409 hitting percentage. The third career-high for a Moc tonight came as
Lindsey Farrell registered 26 digs, with many coming in very crucial times.
Emily Plumlee picked up 7.0 total blocks tonight to help contribute to the Mocs out-blocking UNCG 10.0-9.0 for the match. Setters
Madison Bergren and
Lauren Greenspoon directed the offense with 33 and 26 assists while adding eight and nine digs, respectively.

st SET | UTC started the match off gaining a 7-4 lead after an Elpers kill, but saw the Spartans counter with a 5-2 run to make the score 9-9. Chattanooga went on a 6-2 run from that point and lead 15-11. UNCG battled back to tie the score at 20 all and eventually out-scored the Mocs down the stretch to win the set 25-23. (UNCG 1-0)

nd SET | The Mocs jumped out of that gate to an 8-4 lead by forcing four Spartan errors. UNCG found their way back and brought the set to 11-10 in favor of UTC. From that point, Chattanooga used an 8-3 run to open up a 19-13 lead by forcing a pair of UNCG attack errors. UTC and UNCG traded the next twelve points giving the Mocs a 25-19 win. (Tied 1-1)

rd SET | Both teams traded the first ten points as it was tied 5-5 coming out of the break. UNCG scored five of the next eight to take a 10-8 lead and then went on a 8-3 run to open up a sizeable 18-11 lead over UTC. With UNCG leading 21-12, the Mocs scored eight of the next nine points to make it a 22-20 Spartan advantage. A pair of UNCG blocks and a kill ended the ferocious UTC comeback as the Spartans claimed a 25-22 set win. (UNCG 2-1)

th SET | A must-win set for the Mocs went back-and-forth early on before UTC built a 13-7 lead in the first twenty points. The Spartans couldn't gain any traction and never pulled within less than six points as a kill by Elpers capped off a 25-19 set victory and forced a deciding fifth set. (Tied 2-2)

th SET | A 'roller-coaster of emotions' may be an understatement to describe the deciding fifth set. The Mocs jumped out to an 8-2 lead at the switch and seemed to be on their way to claiming the set. The Spartans roared back with a 12-3 run of their own to push the set to 14-11 and sitting on match point. UTC had all the answers with their backs against the wall and claimed six of the final seven points to win a thriller 17-15 and advancing to the SoCon title match for the second-straight season.
"Kristy (Wieser) really got going in the fifth set. Allie (Davenport) helped us through a good chunk of the first two or three sets. That's what you want your seniors to do. I'm very proud of those two seniors to help get us to the championship match."
