Mocs Winning Streak Halted at Wofford

Chattanooga's four-match win streak was snapped in a 3-1 loss to Wofford

SPARTANBURG, S.C. -- The Chattanooga Mocs volleyball team suffered a 3-1 (16-25, 25-21, 16-25, 15-25) defeat on the road at Wofford on Friday evening.

With the loss, the Mocs fall to 15-11 overall and 8-5 in Southern Conference play. Wofford improves to 16-13 overall and 8-6 in the SoCon.

1st SET | The first set of the match was dominated by Wofford as they never trailed and tied only once at 1-1. The Terriers raced out to an 8-1 lead and from that point traded the next 14 points to lead 15-8. The Mocs couldn't close the gap and fell 25-16 to open the match, giving Wofford a 1-0 lead.

2nd SET | Chattanooga bounced back in the second set by starting out on a 6-0 run to open the set. After the Terriers closed the Mocs lead to 11-9, UTC used a 5-2 run to extend the lead to 16-11. Wofford closed within two points at 22-20 but wasn't enough as the Mocs captured the set 25-21 to tie the match at 1-1 headed into the break.

3rd SET | The third set featured back-and-forth scoring in the early going as the match was tied 4-4 in the first eight points. Wofford went on a 6-1 run to lead 10-5 and scored nine of the next 13 to extend the lead to 19-9. Three straight points from the Mocs made the score 19-12 and forced a Wofford timeout, but wasn't enough as the Terriers earned a 25-16 set win and took a 2-1 lead in the match.

4th SET | Wofford took the momentum from the third set straight into the fourth as they raced out to an 11-3 lead to start the set, forcing UTC to use both their timeouts. The Mocs battled back to bring the set within three late at 18-15, but the Terriers ended the set and match on a 7-1 run, winning the set 25-15 and the match 3-1.

Chattanooga was out-hit .259-.060, out-killed 52-34, out-dug 45-28 and out-blocked 13.0-7.0 against Wofford in the match. The .060 team hitting percentage was the second lowest output in a match from the Mocs this season.

Kristy Wieser and Miranda Elpers both led UTC with seven kills each while Dani Szczepanski chipped in with six. Szczepanski led the defense at the net with 3.0 total blocks.

Allie Davenport finished with five kills on the offensive side and led the team in digs with 12. Lauren Greenspoon dished out 17 assists in the loss.
