Women’s Golf Captures 2nd Win of the Season in Mobile

The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team won for the second time this season capturing the USA Women's Spring Invitational.

MOBILE, Ala.---The Chattanooga Mocs women's golf team captured its second win of 2015-16 with a seven-stroke victory in the USA Women's Spring Invitational. The Mocs and host South Alabama entered the day tied for the lead, but UTC slowly pulled away with a final round 292 for the win.
"You've got to give credit to South Alabama and Eastern Kentucky," coach Colette Murray shared. "They kept pretty close to us throughout the day. Credit to the girls for staying composed and finishing the way they did."
Sophomores Cris Perez and Megan Woods took a big step forward in their brief careers with their first top 10s. Perez's 1-under 215 was second to UAB's Sydney Snodgrass, while Woods tied for third at +2 (218).
"It was just a matter of time until they started to see those type of finishes," Murray added. "That's what they're here to do. That's the expectation they have for themselves."
Emily McLennan missed the top 10 by stroke tying for 11th at 226. Monica San Juan was another shot one behind her tying for 16th at 227. Isabella Loza tied for 27th with 233.
The 54-hole team score of 883 was seven better than USA in second. EKU was third at 893, while UAB ended up fourth at 901. Snodgrass' 213 (-3) was two shots clear of Perez in second.
The two wins mark the sixth time in the program's nine seasons with multiple victories under Murray.
Chattanooga is right back on the course this weekend at the Kiawah Island Spring Classic. The three-day, 54-hole event starts Sunday, Feb. 28, and ends Tuesday, March 1.
