The Chattanooga Mocs softball team falls to Charleston Southern 4-3 closing out the Holy City Showdown in Charleston, S.C. UTC is 15-12 after a 2-3 showing on the weekend.
Senior
Sam Taylor started the game off with a single. She was then batted in by freshman
Jordan Fortel. In the first inning, senior
Alyssa Taylor also singled, while Fortel and senior
Anyssa Robles advanced to first on fielder's choices.
The Buccaneers' Amanda Matsumoto scored to tie it up 1-1 in the bottom of the first.
Chattanooga took back the lead 2-1 in the top of the fourth. Sophomore
Ashley Conner doubled to left center. Freshman
Amanda Beltran followed with her first career triple, bringing Conner home.
A half inning later, Charleston Southern scored a two-run homer to go up 3-2. The Mocs ended the fourth with a double play from senior
Criket Blanco to
Alyssa Taylor to Beltran.
The game tied for the third time in the top of the seventh when Robles batted in
Sam Taylor for her 13th RBI of the season.
In the bottom of the seventh, the Buccaneers' Matsumoto scored her second run of the day clinching the game.
Sophomore
Kailey Palazzolo tossed a complete game, fanning a season-best seven strikeouts.
UTC travels to the USF Under Amour Invitational in Clearwater, Fla., March 18-20. The Mocs face Georgia Tech, host South Florida, Maine, Hartford and UMass Lowell.
